Imagine two young men, high school seniors, both assigned the same history paper. James, a bright young man, concerned about his grade point average and his ability to get into the college of his dreams is researching his paper using the online free library. David, also bright but not as motivated is going to head to the local library and hope for the best. Both boys have two weeks to complete this paper which will count for half of their grade for their history course.
James, who is using an online free library, is finding enough information to write several versions of his paper. He has asked the virtual librarian a number of questions and has gotten even more in depth suggestions than what he would have found on his own. His paper is practically moving along very smoothly and he still has plenty of tie for chatting with his friends and updating his social network pages while he is working. He listens to his favorite music and has a snack. Things are not so bad with this assignment.
David, on the other hand wastes the first few days of the assignment. Finally, he heads down to the library only to find that it closed fifteen minutes before he arrived. Oh well, the thinks as he heads back home. He logs on to his computer but instead of accessing an online free library, he chooses to play a few computer games and chat with his friends. James, who is one of those friends, asks how the paper is going. David just kind of shrugs it off. He still has plenty of time, after all.
James finishes his paper, double checking his facts with the online free library one last time and then prints it off. David is back at the library, wandering through row after row of books looking for something, anything that can help him. Finally, he asks for help from the librarian. She looks up the books that he needs, telling him that the books are all checked out but available from another library in the system. She can request them and they will be in by the following Tuesday. Considering that the paper is due on Monday, this is not going to help David at all. Frustrated he heads back home.
For a few minutes, David thinks about either blowing off the assignment and hoping that his other grades are strong enough to allow him to pass the class but knowing that they are not. He thinks about buying a paper from the class bully but even though he is not very motivated, he has too much integrity to do that. Finally, he calls James and asks for some suggestions. James tells David to use the online free library and even gives him the web address to use so that he can get the paper done. Hopefully the next time that he has an assignment, he will start off with the online free library.
