Review Sites for Proxies And Virtual Private Networks

As an advertiser for a few virtual private network companies, it pays to know my competition. And I frequently check out their sites to see what's going on in the virtual private network world. How to install different VPNs, or what new developments have come out for some smartphone app - it's all very competitive.

To be fair, there are some really good, and really informative sites out there. They frequently update with fresh content, they answer questions put up by visitors of the site, and they make real reviews about VPN services.

However, there are some 'cookie cutter' sites that are just terrible, and they confuse customers with their overly positive and misleading reviews. Before I started advertising online, I never really understood what was going on, but I knew that something wasn't right with some of these sites.

You see, some are called 'auto blogs', and basically what they do is pull content from other sites, post it on their own site, and then put their affiliate links (how they make money) in the side bar or in popup ads.

Another thing that happens is that they just copy and past outsourced content from people who have never used the services, put a positive review on every VPN service they can get affiliated with, and then blast their site with backlinks (other sites linking to their money site) to get ranked in Google. I see pages and pages of "VPN-something-something (.) com" that are filled with rubbish information that doesn't help people looking for real information pertaining to their search for a VPN service.

So how can you tell the difference?

1. Mixed Reviews

A blog that's begging for clicks is going to make everything look good. A website to give you a clear picture of different VPN services available is going to be more honest about what works, and what doesn't.

2. Personal Tone

Bloggers who frequently write are going to have their own writing style. Some who doesn't know what they're talking about is going to copy/paste or rewrite based on other blogs. It'll show in how their blog is written.

3. Amount of links

Any blog that has more than 5 or 6 links per page is going to probably be a purely advertising blog. That's not to say that you won't find affiliate links on honest bloggers sites - because you will - but the amount will differ. Anything that says, "BUY NOW BUY NOW" is trying to play on your emotions and make a sale.

The best way to prevent falling into the advertising trap when you start looking for VPN and proxy reviews is going to be to browse around before you buy. It's best not to put all your faith into one blog, and see what different people have to say about the services you're considering.
