Top VPN Provider

There is a lot of debate about what is the top VPN provider. Websites often recommend one particular VPN provider or another, based on their own experience and some level of personal bias. I believe that the only way to work out what the best VPN provider is for you, is to understand the way that VPNs work, and what your own needs are.

One thing that you want to take into account when choosing a VPN is the type of VPN. The type of VPN influences the level of security that you experience, and can also have an impact on the speed of your browsing.

Most VPN providers will give you the ability to use a SSTP or an OpenVPN without having to pay any additional cost. Both OpenVPN and SSTP are types of VPNs that have an increased level of security. Unlike other types of VPNs, they are only available on a Windows operating system, which means you can’t use them on a Mac, or a mobile device. Furthermore, if you are wanting to use a SSTP VPN, you need to be running Windows Vista or higher.

If you can’t run an SSTP or an OpenVPN, the next best bet in terms of privacy is L2TP. The advantage of L2TP is that you can get these types of VPNs for other types of operating systems, and for devices like smartphones, iPods and iPads.

The last main type of VPN is a PPTP VPN. This type of VPN is significantly different from the others. PPTP has a lower level of encryption. This might seem like a problem at first, but there are some times where you may not be interested in security.

For example, if you are using the internet for online gaming, then encrypting the information that travels between you and the game servers probably isn’t that important. Furthermore, the speed at which you are accessing information is very important. If you are gaming online, downloading or streaming online content, speed is critical to what you are doing, while encryption is not.

When you are trying to decide what the top VPN provider is for your needs, you must take these different types of VPNs into account. The type of system that you are using and what you need the VPN for, will influence what VPN provider is best suited for you. Many VPN providers offer multiple different types of VPN, so you can choose what suits you best.
