No other products comes close to what the iPad has achieved since it´s launch in March 2010. Due to the iPad Apple has increased it´s market share drastically, and 33% of first time Apple purchases has been an iPad or an iPhone. What’s interesting is that only 20% of iPad owners have a household income of $45,000 or less while as many as 40% of the owners have an income of $100,000 or more. While only 26% of non-iPad owners have this level of income.
The iPad rules the worlds tablet Web traffic with more than 87% and in comparison the second largest competitor Kindle Fire family tablets only account for 4.25% of the traffic. In short people use their iPads on the web and downloads apps and other web content much more frequently than other tablet users.
The iPad is also very popular amongst children aged 6-12 and as much as 48% of them would like to buy an iPad over the next six months. The second most popular device for children in this age group is Nintendo Wii U that gets 39%. This means that you can´t go wrong with an iPad as a gift for children.
Of course this popularity leads to a great profit for Apple and as of December 2012 they had 95% of the profits from the tablet segment. It will be interesting to se if Microsoft will take any of this market with their new Windows 8 tablets. Google with Android is definitely struggling to make it in the tablet market, but have had more luck in the phone market the last year.
The software and operating system iOS is also frequently updated. People are quickly updating their device to the latest version only a month after iOS 6 was released more than 200 million devices were running this version of the operating system. You can´t find this speed of upgrades within any other operating system on the globe.
More than 350 billion messages have been sent from iMessage, that´s a staggering 28,000 messages every second.
The iBook have been a great success and the iBook store have had more than 1.7 million books uploaded since its start and that´s quite a library that has led to more than 430 million downloads. Schools in the U.S. and worldwide are using iBook for educational purposes and it is reported that almost 3000 U.S. classrooms are using iBook daily.
With iBook Author even more people are going to publish books so the number of available titles will likely increase rapidly in the years to come.
