Honesty With Family

A relationship can be very complicated at times. Well in some aspects more complicated then it needs to be. We tend to not be ourselves and want to impress others rather then just being who we are. This is never a way to be with anyone no matter who they are or how important they are to you.

When you love someone you should always be honest with them especially your family. Honesty can be hard for some people. Sometimes people don’t know how to be honest with themselves let alone anyone else. Sometimes we feel we have to do things to impress someone, maybe make them think you are more then who you really are. This will usually come back to haunt you at some point in you life, especially when it involves your family.

Once you break honesty in a relationship, no matter who it may be with it is hard to get it back. You may try many ways to get trust back but in the end the person may resent you and just want to end the relationship. Family relationships are almost impossible to end, it happens, but it is very stressful for others in the family. Most of the time it is your family who will hurt you the most. They are the ones you spend a good part of your life with and have helped shape you into the person you are.

When you grow up around dishonest people you will learn to be dishonest. This can be a hard cycle to break and will effect all the relationships you have in your life. It can be very hard to understand why they hurt you, and are not always honest with you. Maybe they are jealous of you for one reason or another, maybe you were smarter or had more friends, or you may have been better looking in their eyes. You resent them for the way they treat you. They leave you out of family functions, or maybe you don’t invite them to functions you have.

This tends to create tension among other family members. They may feel like they must choose a side and separate a unit that should be stronger than any other. No one likes to be at a family function if there is tension in the family. No one really likes to be around dishonest people unless they are dishonest as well. It is hard to handle a family member who does not know how to just be themselves.

Many times we try to repair these broken relationships. Sometimes they are fixable and sometimes no matter what you do there is no real way to fix the relationship. At some point you will come to the realization that there is just no hope. They will never change no matter what you might do. This is a very disappointing realization to come to.

In all our hearts we want to be loved and accepted from the time we are small enough to know. We all just want our family to accept us for who we are, not what they may want us to be.

If the relationship had just remained honest maybe the situation would not have ended up the way it did. None the less at some point you have to find it in your heart to forgive the one who has been dishonest with you or to forgive yourself if you have been the one who was dishonest. You must pick up the pieces and move on.

Well no matter what you decide you must heal yourself and learn that it is always best to be honest. It may not always feel right at first and you may be scared of how someone will react to you. No matter what honesty is the best policy.
