Playstation 4 - Next Gen Console

The release of Sony’s PlayStation 4 was a much anticipated event for me as well as the gaming community in general. The console itself looks extremely different and futuristic, compared to the PlayStation 3. It was released in the U.S. on November 19, and the 29th of November in the U.K.

The New Design

The Physical box of the PlayStation 4 is a new design, when compared next to Sony’s previous systems, such as the original PlayStation, PS2, and PS3. It has a slanted stacked body, that has a blue light running down the middle of its case. It has a half matte half gloss finish. All in all the PlayStation 4 is Black, sleek, and slim; just what we would expect from a next gen console.

No console would be complete with out a brand new gaming controller and Sony definitely deliver with their new gaming paddle the DualShock 4 . The layout of the PS4′s controller remains the same for the most part. The controller was given a bit of weight, as well as giving a slighter curve feeling for the R2 and L2 buttons, which will definitely feel better when playing shooter and driving games. The major difference is the touch pad placed in the middle of the controller as well as the speaker that’s installed directly into the controller. It was a definite shock to me to hear my controller start talking while I was playing a game. It also comes equipped with a nifty little share button, that allows you to instantly share game footage by uploading it to Facebook, or streaming live through Ustream. The controller also has a port that you plug your headset into, similar to the Xbox controller.

Internal

While its designed to lay down by nature, there is an optional stand that can be purchased separately. It sports a Blue-Ray disc drive that is capable of play 3-D movies as well. The PS4 also sports two 3.0 usb ports in the front for easy access. Moving on to the processor, the PS4 comes equipped with a single-chip processor that utilizes an eight core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU with a 1.84 TFlop GPU; that’s backed by 8GB of GDDR5 RAM. While the PS4 does come with a standard 500GB hard drive, it is made to be replaceable if you find yourself wanting more memory. What all this means in laymen terms is that the PlayStation 4 is a very powerful gaming console!
