You know the other day I was sitting there in the kitchen wondering which was better, Easter cake pops or Easter eggs? Easter Cake pops are the newcomer on the scene when it comes to Easter treats. So I asked myself this question : Will they last? I think they will because they are unique and so delicious! But I guess we will have the answer to that in a few years’ time.
In the meantime, here were my thoughts on both Easter cake pops and Easter eggs…
Easter Cake Pops:
• Taste great.
• All kids will eat them!
• A good activity to spend time with your children.
• Children have fun making them.
• Brings out the creativity in yourself and your children.
• They are unique.
• Can be made in a variety of flavours.
• Easy to wrap as gifts.
• Easy to make a large number of them.
• They can last a long time if kept refrigerated.
• Portable, take them to family celebrations or add them to school lunches.
Easter Egg …the traditional dyed ones:
• Easier to make.
• Takes less time.
• A good activity to spend time with your children.
• Children have fun making them.
• Not all children like eating them.
• Have to be careful of the dye entering the egg itself.
• Have a shorter shelf life as a dairy product.
As you can see there are lots of positives on both sides. So it becomes a decision based on your personal opinion as to which is the most important aspect.
For me, it’s about the taste and spending quality time interacting with our children. It is very easy to get “busy” in the modern world, so anything that gives the gift of “time” with your children is great. Especially when it entertains them as well.
Baking can also teach them valuable skills like patience, planning and manual dexterity. It also gives them some basic baking skills which can be valuable later, especially if they like the baking side of the things.
So in the end, what did all my pondering produce?? A conclusive tie! Well, maybe not, I’ll say that Easter cake pops make a great addition to your Easter treats, rather than a replacement for the traditional Easter egg.
You know, if I had of put that time to good use, I could well have whipped up a batch of Easter cake pops! Sitting there day dreaming about Easter cake pops doesn’t get them made, as most baking mom’s will testify to!
I hate to make you hungry Rob, but I am likely baking more this weekend. I'll hopefully post some photo's for you to salivate over!
The way I am Cake pops, Easter eggs, anything will do. hate these articles make me hungry, but addicted to reading them, I'm following you now so bring on all the nice stories and how toos
Jennifer, these look yummy, as well as fun! I am going to send my daughter over to see if she will make me some :-)
Sure Sherry, tell her to give them a try. Also tell her not to worry if the first batch she does don't come out looking as great as some of the professional photos you will see on the net.
Would like to have some of the Cake Pops right now. The eggs... not so much. Great article.
Thanks Glenda, they have become rather addictive in our house. One of the first words our 18 month old learnt was "cake pops"!
