Owning a Henckels Knife set can be a huge step in your home career as a culinary wizard. But there are a few things that you should know so that you can keep your knives in tiptop condition.
First lets look at the two processes used to create Henckels knives then we can look at how to care for them properly. Henckel use two methods of knife making to ensure that the quality of their product is of the highest standard.
SIGMAFORCE is the first process. Henckel knifes are steel forged from a single piece of high quality, high-carbon stainless steel to guarantee the stability of the blade and keep it sharp over time. As this blade is made from one piece of steel it is perfectly balanced and weighted and will not rust over time.
The next process is known in the knife world as J.A Henkel’s Friodr Ice Hardening system. In this process stainless steel that is used to make the blade is kept at a workable temp until near the end of the process. It is then heated right up to 1000DegC before being plunged into a rapid cooling state at -70degrees C. Once the steel has cooled it is then reheated again up to 250DegC. It is this process that is trademarked as Friodr by J.A Henkel that gives all of Henckels knife sets a high-edge retention and excellent flexibility but also protects the blades from rust and corrosion.
Now lets have a look at how to care for your knives.
1. Never ever wash your knives in the dishwasher. The excessive heat can cause the knife blades to warp and slightly bend which is not good at all. Always wash your knives in warm soapy water and rinse and dry immediately.
2. Keep your knives sharp by running them over kitchen steel once or twice before and after every use. This will ensure that a fine edge is always maintained on your knives. Once a month or so (depending on how often you use your knives) sharpen your Henckels knife set using a stone.
3. Don't let your knives float around in a drawer. If you have a Henckels knife set it is best to keep them in the block that comes with the set. If you need to travel with your knives or take them somewhere - wrap them up in a tea towel to take care of the blades. This also prevents you from hurting yourself as well.
Following these easy steps will ensure that your knives last for a long time.
