How to Roast Almonds

Almonds merit numerous health benefits and are a rich source of Vitamin E for the body. It is estimated that an ounce of almonds can provide approximately 35 per cent of your recommended daily quota of Vitamin E. Although almonds can be eaten raw, the inherent flavor and natural oils present in the nut are brought to the fore when roasted. Roasting also increases the shelf life of almonds and makes it more compliant as an ingredient in food preparation. In this article, we shall explore 4 best methods to roast almonds the right way.Oven

Dry Roast

Heat the oven to a temperature of about 350° F. Meanwhile lay out the almonds across a tray lined with baking paper and place in the oven. Bake the almonds for about 10 minutes until they are light brown or golden brown with a characteristic fragrance. It should be duly noted that almonds have an innate oil content within them, which will continue to roast the nut even after removing it from the oven. After removing the tray from the oven, allow the roasted almonds to cool under a fan.

Oven Oil Roast

Preheat the oven to a temperature of 350° F. Meanwhile, line up a tray with aluminum foil and spread the almonds out on the baking pan. Using a brush, coat the almonds with canola oil and place them in the oven. Bake the almonds for about 10 minutes until golden brown and remove the pan from the oven. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the roasted almonds and mix them thoroughly with your fingers.

Skillet Roast

Take a large, heavy bottomed skillet and preheat it over a medium flame. Toss the almonds into the skillet, spreading them out evenly. Depending on the quality of the almonds used, add a tablespoon of butter or oil into the pan so that the almonds are more uniformly roasted.

Honey Roasted Almonds

Roasting almonds with honey is a simple yet delectable way to infuse a rich flavor with the nuts so that you can use them as toppings for various deserts.

Ingredients:

2 cups of almonds

A quarter cup of sugar

2 tablespoons of water

2 tablespoons of honey

Half a teaspoon of salt

2 tablespoons of canola oil

Place the almonds evenly on an oven tray lined with baking powder. Calibrate the temperature of the oven to 350° F. Allow the almonds to bake in the oven for about 12 minutes and stir occasionally until the nuts are uniformly browned. When done, remove the tray from the oven and keep it aside. Meanwhile, mix the sugar and salt in a medium sized bowl and set it aside. Pour the water, oil and honey into a medium size saucepan and let the mixture simmer over medium heat until it boils. Now stir in the almonds into the mixture and let it cook for about 5 minutes until all the liquid is absorbed. Transfer the almonds to a bowl and coat them with a sprinkling of salt and sugar. Mix them thoroughly and spread them on a baking paper sheet or metal foil to cool.

Once you have roasted the almonds, you can use them in a variety of ways to add zest and flavor to your daily cooking. So, go ahead and experiment with your own culinary creations with this tiny yet nutrient rich super-food.
