I would like to talk a bit today about how to shop for the paleo diet. For me shopping can be a bit tricky. I tend to get side tracked easy and can buy a lot of things that I didn't intend to purchase. I think that it's extremely important to go into this task prepared or you will end up buying all those foods you are trying not to eat.
Make a list
You got to make a list. I have written previously about the foods that are good and also the ones to avoid. Look over the list and try to find foods that you like and are interesting to you. If your buying for a extended period of time, be careful how much you get of all the fresh stuff. Fresh fruits and vegetables don't last as long. There are methods to preserving the foods a bit longer but I suggest more trips to the market if you can. The list will help because you can get only what you need.
Have Recipes Ready to Go
Now, how to shop for the paleo diet can be tricky if you don't know what to do with the food when you get it. I suggest having predetermined recipes planned out ahead of time so that you have ways to use the foods after purchasing. I mean, there is no sense in buying parsnips if you don't know how to prepare it. It will sit in your fridge and spoil. This will also help out with portions so you don't over buy.
Have a Plan to Minimize Waste and Save Money
One thing about fresh produce and meats is that it will spoil faster than those processed foods that have preservatives in them. So some tricks on how to shop for the paleo diet might be freezing things you can freeze.
A good way to save money with lets say chicken is to buy the whole chicken then cut it up yourself instead of just buying breast by themselves. You can use the different parts for lets say soups or stocks or freeze for later. Just remember to remove the skin. A lot of markets will even cut the chicken for you at no extra cost.
I have trouble in the produce section sometimes because I might need .5# of squash, but the squash might weigh two pounds. Cut up the rest and freeze it so you can use it in a soup later or roast it with some fresh herbs. Herbs come in big packs and they always go bad. Try drying them out if you can't use all of them or buy some of the potted plants that you can keep for a long time.
There are so many tricks that can help you on how to shop for the paleo diet.
I hope I've been Helpful! Just remember to ask for more help on how to shop for the paleo diet if you need.
I myself tend to get side tracked easily at times. Thank you for the help...hope to hear more. Keep it up.
