In our daily lives, microwaving is something that we do so very frequently. We microwave all sorts of things, from bacon to rice and so much more. However, we hardly look at the hazardous effects we can land ourselves into; a practice that can drop us into such trouble is microwaving plastics. Many people don’t really know about the effects microwaving plastics has on our bodies, but after reading this, you should get a better picture of it.
Are you informed about how plastics are made? If not, I’m sure you have a small idea about it. One thing about their creation is a fact though; tons and tons of chemicals are used. Picture how many times you have popped your food into a microwave using a plastic dish. Many huh? Now imagine this happens inside the microwave: Most of the plastic content melts into your food, the food you eat.
To be a bit more specific, you literally push food containing plastic chemicals down your throat into your body. I don’t know how you would look at it, but how I see it, consuming such is just as equivalent as taking a bottle of chemicals and draining it into your stomach.
Doctors say such lifestyles cause troublesome diseases like cancer. On land, plastics last for more than 5 decades without decomposing. Imagine what effect plastic would have on your health when it is in your body. It’s simply unbelievable. What is recommended however, is avoiding such methods of preparing foods. If you really wish to use the microwave for preparing something to eat, use glass or something else that wouldn’t melt easily.
Some time back, there were some posts on the internet claiming that microwaving previously cooked rice creates some harmful substance in the rice that can cause some cancer. I don’t think it was confirmed, but still, scientists recommend eating fresh nutritious foods in the right quantities.
Chiefly, it all falls back to nutrients. You can’t compare eating some stew which you just pulled out of the fridge after some days and threw it into the microwave on a plastic dish to some fresh steamed stew. The difference is far too big. The microwave prepared stew would be lip smacking but full of chemicals, on the other hand, the steamed stew will be healthy and less tasty. However, we both know, more people in the world would go for the warmed sweet stew instead of the steamed stew. It’s just how we live.
All in all, microwaving using plastics should really be avoided. But with the correct microwaving plastics information it should all go well. Happy cooking :)
An acquaintance of mine said that "nuking" food changes the properties enough that our bodies do not know what to do with them. She flat out refuses to have a microwave in her house. I never use a plastic container in the microwave. I've heard that even when the plastic container is in a hot environment, such as a car, carcinogens are released into the food or water it is holding. Ick!
I think its great to be cautious about the plastic, just shop wisely for the better ones made to cook with .
I never microwave cling film wrapped food. I do use it to cover bowls but never in contact with food
Whoa! I suppose I should have known this, but didn't. Thanks for the info. I'll certainly start using glass instead of plastic when I'm microwaving something.
oh wow i didn't know that. My microwave broke down a few months ago and i didn't get a new one yet. I don't think I'm going to bother now!
