Beading exquisite pieces of handmade jewelry may be a passion, a hobby or just a dream for you but why stop there? You can use beads all over your home to create a wonderful, unique living space for yourself and your family. Following are just a few ideas on how to take some craft beads and turn the every day items you find at discount stores into one-of-a-kind works of art.

It's easy enough to add beads to your home decor and make it truly your own. Want to add a touch of exotic flair to your lamps? Simply go to your local fabric store and purchase a few yards of ribbon with beaded dangles. Most come with adhesive already affixed. Place the ribbon along the outside of the lamp and voila! an instant transformation.

Or, take a blah lampshade and use tacky glue and some seed beads to transform it into a one of a kind work of art.

Beaded Crystal Sun Catchers

Maybe one of the easiest things to create is a beaded crystal sun catcher. Simply take some FireLine, at least 6lb. and place a seed bead in the middle of a length of about 3 feet. Take the two lengths of FireLine and thread them up through your crystal beads. Begin with a 6mm crystal bead and taper up to the top. You can even add in a few lampworked beads for color or to tie into the color scheme of your house. Tie off the thread around the metal part of a suction cup and hang in your window - or tie off to a Christmas tree hook and decorate your tree with some handmade sparkle.

Peyote Chain Covers

This is one of my personal favorites. I live in an old house, there are a number of pull chain lights around. I hate the look of the string and the chain. So, I took a variety of beads in complementary blue shades and began a simply peyote tubular stitch. When it reached the length I wanted, I slid it onto the string. I kept on the string by affixing a simple, small key ring on the end. Then, when I pulled on the key ring, the pressure from the pull is going directly onto the string and not the tube of peyote stitch. You see, the tubular peyote, while strong, is probably not strong enough for repeated pulls - as would be the case if you used it as your only pull chain.

So there you have it, just a few ideas for how to take your beads and accent your home.
