Easy Wood Projects

In my last article I wrote about the many types of wood and the ways it may be purchased. As I was walking around Home Depot I really wanted to do a project that was easy and could be completed in a short time. I was so overwhelmed by all the varieties of wood I could not think. I left there and went to Michael’s. Again I was overwhelmed with the vast amount of projects that could be done. However, I focused on projects involving wood and that helped.

Various Wood Kits-Bags of Wood

Much to my surprise they had small bags of wood with various sizes and shapes of wood. To be honest it looked like someone had gone to a job site and started bagging their scraps. My mind turned to carving. I could carve this one into a creature of some sort, this one into doll furniture, this one into a book end, and so on and so on. It sometimes surprises me how easily distracted I become. Once I snapped out of it I moved down a little.

Wood Needing Finish

I looked down and saw pre-made wood projects that needed some color or other ornaments. They had jewelry boxes, doll houses, bird houses, boats, and others. I was surprised that someone could do that and not finish them. They also had wood cut in various shapes with a routered edge. These pieces could be used for clocks, wood burning, painting pictures, and whatever you can imagine. After I moved down a little further I saw more.

More Wood Projects

I saw professionally packaged wood burning kits with patterns, wood, wood burner, and tracing paper. There were numerous varieties and under the packages were more “loose” pieces of wood to replenish one’s supply after the pre-packaged material ran out. They had small pieces for key chains perhaps, picture frames, heart shapes, dinosaur parts, and shapes I am not sure of. I was more taken back what I saw when I moved down even further.

Wood Clocks

I found clock parts. They had bags of entire clocks to put on something, just the mechanisms, or hands, and different styles of numbers. I think I have found my new project. I would like to buy a larger piece of wood with a routered edge, a full clock mechanism with hands and numbers, some paints, and time. My new project is going to be a painted sunset with a clock over it. I am still deciding whether to wood burn an image of a wolf into the wood. I will have to experiment. My next few articles will be documenting the process I go through to get to a completed project.

Happy Building…
