Duct tape crafts are a great deal of fun. They provide entertainment and produce a finished product that is useful and durable. A duct tape wallet is a great gift for Father’s Day, a birthday, graduations, Christmas, or any other occasion that you can think of. It is often difficult to come up with a craft that is appropriate for a man, but this is one that would really be appreciated.
The really nice thing about a duct tape wallet is that they are fairly quick, inexpensive and simple enough that children can perform this task. So, how do you go about making this nifty little craft?
Materials You Will Need
There is very little really needed to make a wallet out of duct tape. All you really need is one or two of your favorite color duct tape and a sharp pair of scissors. Optionally, a kitchen cutting board and a craft knife make it some of the cuts a bit easier.
Duct Tape Wallet Step by Step
1. Lay out four pieces of duct tape eight inches long in a slightly overlapping manner to form a fabric sheet.
2. Lay out another four pieces (the same or different color as used previously) in the same manner sticky side to sticky side against the piece you created in the first step. This will create the main piece of fabric that will be the base for the wallet.
3. Fold this fabric in half lengthwise.
4. Choose the color that you want to use for your credit card slots. Cut four pieces about 3 ¾ inches (or just slightly shorter than ½ the length of the wallet) and fold them in half lengthwise with sticky sides together.
5. Cut two more pieces identical to the ones you just cut only slice in half lengthwise.
6. Use the pieces cut in step 5 to adhere the pieces from step 4 as credit card slots on the inside of the wallet, two per side. Be sure that the top slot is allows at least 2 ¼ inches from the bottom of the pocket to the top of the wallet and the bottom pocket should be at the very bottom of the wallet.
7. Cut two pieces of duct tape the height of the wallet. Slice one in half lengthwise and you slice one third off the other lengthwise.
8. Use the one 1/3 wide piece to run up the center of the wallet and secure the inside of the credit card pockets on both sides. Set the two half width pieces to the side for now.
9. Cut two pieces the full length of the wallet and slice each in half lengthwise.
10. You will use three of the four resulting pieces. One for the bottom of the duct tape wallet and two for the top of the wallet. These will be wrapped over the edges to give a clean look.
11. The final step is to use the two ½ with pieces that were set aside and use them to wrap the two edges and adhere them together.
This is a completed duct tape wallet and will make a wonderful gift or just a great item to use. They are very durable and useful. Enjoy! Be Creative! Have fun!
Hey Becky, I really liked this article. In fact I like the whole duct tape theme you got going on. I don't mean to tell you what to do but the how-tos would be easier to understand if you had some pictures or video. Also, do you have or have you considered building a website?
