Crochet considered very relaxing ( and not to hard to get started with ) and very good fun which is why so many people are looking to learn how to crochet these days.

If you learn how to crochet there are many, many patterns out there you can get started with, the world really is your oyster. Here are just a few of your options to start crochet with: you can decide to make jumpers/tops, elaborate scarves and warm hats, delicate looking dollies and impressive tablecloths, toys and accessories for children and even babies. If you are looking to take on a more advanced project to start with then you can attempt to make a bed-spread.

The basics needed to learn how to crochet are very simple. All you need is a crochet hook and a ball of yarn ( thread ). You must also pick a pattern to follow. Crochet stitches are typically wraps or turns of threads around the hook. These create loops and combinations of these loops will make up a chain. These chains make up a crochet row and these rows make up the crochet product/pattern. Each row is literally knitted on top of the first making the pattern spread outwards.

To learn how to crochet you must learn how to hold the hook first, basically there are two ways - you can either hold the hook like you would hold a pencil or you can hold the hook like you hold a butter-knife. Try holding the hook in any other way and you will soon hit problems with your chain.

Now for the stitches - the most important step to cover as you learn how to crochet. These are the list of common stitches used with crochet: The most common is the slip knot, followed by the chain stitch, the slip stitch, the double crochet, the half treble ( H.T.R. ), treble crochet, double treble crochet and picot. The chain stitch and slip stitch are the most common and are what people decide to start out with.
