Painted Wood Project

In my last article I made my decision as to what my next project will be. I am going to make a clock. I am going to get a piece of wood, some paint, and clock parts and make my own clock. As I have been saying all along planning is very important and could take some time. I have taken some time and looked at various clocks, pieces of wood, clock mechanisms, and paints. I still have a long way to go and may require help. For instance, what type of paint is good on wood and easy to work with to get good color without “bleeding” of paint as it soaks into the wood?

Research Supplies

The first thing I am doing is researching prices. I forgot to write down prices when I was at Michael’s-oops. I went to their website and it was not very helpful. I then went to Google and found some great pieces of wood for $3-$15 depending on size. Next are clock parts for around $9. I am just starting to incorporate paint into my wood projects so I may want to invest in various colors for many projects. Therefore it may cost more so I am budgeting about $25 for paint. I hope to get a starter kit with many different colors. First, I need to know what type of paint to use on wood. Back to Google I go to do more research. To the best of my ability, I believe I want to use non-toxic acrylic paint with a good base or primer.

Obtaining Supplies

As a result of my being over whelmed with the numerous possibilities for projects I did not get any supplies while I was out. However, this brings up a good point. Do you buy online or at the store? I think this is a preference thing rather than anything else. Online is great for convenience but I like to see and feel what I am buying rather than hope I got the right stuff. I may want to shop around and see what else I can find. This project could go through some changes so bear with me.

Not So Fun Part…

The part I really do not like, waiting to get everything I need to start another wood project. Waiting can be difficult but being too anxious can lead to problems so take a deep breath and have fun! Go over everything and make notes or draw pictures so you can get started once the materials are purchased. Until next time…

Happy Building…
