This Christmas Get Wonderful Varieties Of Embroidery Designs

The Christmas holiday is my favorite time of year. I don’t care for cold weather, but coming into a warm home filled with the smells of cinnamon and pine makes up beautifully for the frosty toes and fingertips. I love the rich colors, whether red and green, pink and aqua, or metallic gold and silver on blue or black. Cheerful, Victorian, or elegant. I love it all.

Because I am a quilter and a machine embroidery artist, I especially love being able to create my own holiday decor and gift items. I mostly enjoy decor creation since it always seems weird to give a holiday gift for the holiday on the holiday. They only get a couple more days to enjoy it before it gets packed up until next year.

A couple of years ago, I hit on something that works for me. I get started on next year’s Christmas embroidery projects just after the current holiday is over. I decide on my projects the week between Christmas and the New Year and then spend the next several months completing them. Around Thanksgiving, I give my gifts to those on my list. When they see that it is something Christmas themed like free-standing lace ornaments or a Mylar angel, they understand why I have given it so early and insisted that it be opened right away.

My favorite embroidery design gallery offers such a wonderful variety of embroidery designs and styles, I’m able to find something appropriate for everyone on my list. And, because I can also stock up on my thread for machine embroidery at the same time, I know I’ll be ready to stitch at any time. It’s quite fun!

The item I like to gift most often is simple hand towels for bath and kitchen. For the bath, elegant monogram designs are quick to stitch. For something a bit more special, I love to add appliqué Santas or snowmen, along with a matching ribbon or embroidery border along the edge. For the kitchen, adding a towel topper makes a wonderfully useful gift. These are a great way to give a Christmas themed item without overwhelming someone else’s decorating scheme.

Once the gifts are created, they must be presented in a loving manner as well. I like to use plain brown wrapping paper that I have decorated with rubber stamps, hot fix crystals, and pretty fabric ribbons. I will then create either a card with machine embroidery designs on Mulberry Paper or embellish the package with a free-standing lace design to match the fun paper I have created.

While the gift itself may be humble, the wrapping adds to my heartfelt sentiments. Plus, the additional embroidery design element of the package is another, secondary gift. The free-standing lace ornaments make great bookmarks later!

By planning and stitching early, I’m always done in time to enjoy the holiday season myself. Instead of muttering to myself in the sewing room, I’m enjoying mulled cider and cookies with the family. And, I still have time to create decor for me and a last-minute gift if needed.

Giving is divine, but please remember to take time to enjoy the cozy, calm season in the company of your family and friends. That is the best gift of all, for all of us.
