The wonders of Fall
Autumn is upon us. The leaves are changing, the air is becoming crisp and cool, and with this comes a renewed energy for creativity for me. I love doing crafts this time of year as the possibilities are endless. There are a wealth of things to do with seasonal items right now. All it takes is a willingness to look around. Go ahead, look outside. What do you see? Did you look? That brings us to my first fall craft supply.
Leaves
Yes, leaves falling means taking, but it also is a source of free craft material! What can you do with leaves? Take a bunch of assorted colored leaves, glue to cardboard then take small sticks to spell a message. Single words work best, such as autumn, fall or welcome. Frame in a deep photo frame and hang. To preserve leaves better, coat with clear varnish. You can also use leaves arranged around the matting for fall pictures.
Pumpkins
Now this one might be obvious, but ours something most people don't consider. Pumpkins abound this time of year, but aside from jack-I-lanterns and baking pumpkins, most don't give them a second thought. The good thing is after Halloween, pumpkins get prices reduced. You can draw a picture of a turkey on one, then glue, guess what......leaves! on the back for feathers! Or how about those colorful corn cobs for feathers? Winter is also close. Feel more in a Christmas spirit than fall? Stack a smaller pumpkin on top of a larger one, then paint like a snowman.
Sticks
I know I've already covered one idea with sticks, but how about Tipis? With Thanksgiving fast approaching, kids always love making crafts that relate to stories. Tie a few sticks together at the top to form a tipi. You can wrap with construction paper or what I prefer, cut strips from an old shirt. I like to keep a bag of clothes to use for crafts on hand. (great way to use clothes with holes or stains that you can't donate).
While the heat of summer is always my favorite, the possibilities of fall cant be ignored. And with daylight savings giving us an extra hour of sleep, there is more energy to look for those craft supplies that could easily be overseen. Try to look around you when you are moving about the house from room to room or when you are out and about and really SEE all that there is for you to use! With the high cost of everything now, why let your crafts cost a fortune?
I hope I've been able to show you just how much this time of year has to offer those of you that, like myself, love great crafts.
