30 Articles In 30 Days – A Personal Growth And Education

Accepting a challenge of such order seemed “A Bridge too Far” yet this the thirtieth, an achievement I in the beginning considered beyond the reach of my capabilities. Yet it has been a pleasurable two weeks or so and the end in sight. I have learnt so much about myself, as well as making discoveries about what I can write about.

When my first article, before the 30 30 challenge, reached a publishable stage I experienced a feeling of euphoria, I had always wanted to write, but doubted my grammatical ability to ever be published. When this article appeared on my dashboard, I bragged to the family and encouraged them to read what I had written. Now this was not my first attempt to write, when surveying years ago, I started a book about my experiences when working in the field alone. Encounters with wild animals, humour, the unusual findings and behaviour of fellow workers, all went in the book.

In those days, computers, lap tops, and the modern wonders of today, pipe dreams in the minds of computer engineers. My book, or an attempt at one, scribbles in a note book with deletions that made editing impossible. This never reached a stage of completion, and reading what I had written, total "codswallop". The note book, finally destroyed in a flood, that inundated my house years later.

My second attempt at writing, undertaken when I owned my first tower computer, fared no better, the spell and grammar check became the curse of my life. I gave up, as a mathematician, writing beyond the realms of reality. I joined an institution that encouraged speech giving and debate, something I never partook in during my school days, but a blessing later in life when I needed to make speeches at weddings and other gatherings. I became the chairman of a Turf Managers Association, and found the ability to talk, give speeches and create debate an advantage. This ability became the building blocks of my now third attempt at authorship. A book, technical in nature yet containing humour, about Green Keeping, 40 000 words later and the end still not insight, I discovered Street Articles.

This discovery, from an article, written by Spook Moor, about my old school and a scholar that had inspired him, inspired me. This platform would be a testing ground to see if I had made progress in my ability to write. When the third article was published, I hoped to receive at least a hundred reads, between the three. The 30 30 challenge, offered and accept, has taught me more than I ever imagined possible. I have always been inclined to verbosity, “too much detail” a constant reminder from my wife when I test speeches. The article writing has aided against this, as well as I seem to have improved dramatically in grammar, hitting the grammar check button no longer a fear that caused panic and perspiration. Reading other author's articles, instructive.

I expected the articles written within my field of expertise, would be my forte, but discovered a larger readership in a different discipline completely. A niche I intend to develop and continue with, a source of past experiences, await their chance to become an article, hopefully to be read by my peers and to develop thought and discussion.

I have read over the book i am writing, and believe it or not, after writing and publishing within this platform, I have discovered how much my grammar and writing has improved. The book will need a major edit, something I feel more confident to undertake myself.

I thank the founders of this platform, for their foresight for developing potential authors, writing has become an obsession, one I will continue to follow, an outlet for my thoughts and feelings.

To those of you that have considered writing, but feel the ability is lacking, the grammar beyond you, I encourage you to try, join the platform and write. A rewarding outlet for many diverse subjects and thoughts, but a total euphoric experience, when the email of publication reaches your in-box.

I recognize many of those thoughts. We all need the exercise to become experts, don't we?
