Article Writing – Creative Authors, Writing Articles

Articles written by creative authors.

If you want to witness great authors the site to visit is Street Authors. I stand in awe, absolute awe, of the expounding (love that word) of my peers within this medium. A simple challenge, a joke in fact, to an author I cannot believe has not been published in hard cover or soft, had a notice in my in-box within twenty-four hours of an article of note.

Now this has taught me to keep my big mouth shut, a woman challenged, an Australian I think, has me wondering about her future. What more must she do for a publisher to snap her up, pay her a small fortune in advance for the book she can obviously write. Her skill on various subjects, unbelievable, an author of absolute note.

An American, an obvious expert on gardens, why no book published? Her articles, if put together, would make a wonderful “how to …...” garden book. The knowledge on other subjects as diverse as antibiotic feeding of stock animals, to canning and children’s obesity.

Authors on pets, Internet marketing, retirement, motor vehicle maintenance, fishing, retirement and so many more subjects. Their obvious knowledge and abilities of their chosen subjects, call for a publisher's attention. Reading the biographies of these authors, shows that their backgrounds are diverse and they live world-wide.

There are those that battle with their English, their tenses and sentence construction, does it matter? I “don't give a hoot”, they are writing with gusto and enthusiasm and their obvious enjoyment is my pleasure to read. In any case, who would I be to judge composition or sentence structure, or for that matter spelling or grammar, I'm an idiot at it myself. But that they are out there, among the expert writers, is so admirable, I want to award stars. Man, was I happy when that English teacher put a red star on my compositions at school, junior school that is. It took me a long time to find out that it had bad connotations of future failure.

I wonder why no one has thought to create compilations of articles written, in a book, or for that matter eBook. The proceeds from sales could be shared between the authors. Think about it, there is so much talent within the Street Article group, that selecting what to published within the book, would be the most difficult decision. To get published today by a publishing house, needs a miracle, you must either be married to a King or Queen, and I mean that in the nicest way; or you must have so much money, that you can publish yourself and then spend a fortune on marketing.

Creative writing is an art, one to which I am not blessed, but there are within this group so many that are and it just seems such a loss to the world that they will never be published in a way that they deserve. My peers need more recognition, a “Virgin Books” maybe, some one should contact Branson.

The comments; knowledgeable, encouraging, friendly banter, serious referrals and so much more that's shared. The sheer diversity of backgrounds and abilities, makes for a panel of people who any tertiary education facility could accommodate as a “board of experts”.

I bow with admiration of the Authors within this site, your abilities, enthusiasm, skill and gusto an absolute pleasure to read, and comment on. I would encourage so many of you to investigate being “book” published, your inherent ability, enough for recognition.

Rob, my dear! How did I miss this article. One so profound, speaking truth and entertaining all at once. Sadly, however, I have to ask you to get out the coffee so we can have a disagreement. Your comment: "one to which I am not blessed" !!?? What's that all about?! Now if there was ever a load of codswallop I just heard it. Delightful to read you again as always!

When I look at the speed that you are all rushing up the ranks, I know I am telling the truth, The talent that is shown on specific subjects, attests to the talent in whose company I'm in. The ramblings of mine no contest to those I see.

Says meek mild and humble number one author. Does it become him I ask myself?! lol

Heather I rank my own writing probably more critically than others, I some how do not feel the elevated position of no 1 is warranted in my case when reading others (like yours) that seem so much better than mine, yet understanding how one gets to be in that position is dumb founding. The author in second place has 380 articles and 239485 reads how is he not number 1?

I can't tell you how often I've hesitated to publish an article and then found it popular after finally publishing it later. We are our own worse critics or perhaps for myself I'm worried of being criticised?! I don't know really. I haven't worked out how authors are ranked... to be honest I don't really worry much about all that. Is there somewhere you can see authors categorised by rank? I think it likely takes into consideration all our activity such as your consistency in visiting and motivating on other articles too. However it's worked out I think the higher ranking writers have earned their positions. They're generally all very enjoyable to read.

Lemuel

Yeah, I wonder what would it be like. A lot of authors in SA can already compile their articles and make great e-books.

Reply
  about 1 decade ago

That is so true Lemuel, when you consider that most of our reads are probably from within the group, how many outsiders would enjoy the ramblings of others. I enjoy short articles as they have the bite factor that in a short time tells you a lot. Some books with their beginning middle and end can become so broken that one is not sure of the true plot. Picture people on their lunch break wanting just to lose themselves for a half hour how they would enjoy the writings of this forum.

In retrospect I regret this article, it was meant as a complement to those authors I admire and has turned around in some way as a egotistic trip, not meant. So many of you have the talent to be published and that is the point I wanted to make. Where are the talent scouts of old? That should be summing up these articles to find the next great author. A forum of peoples work I enjoy that should be remembered within the binding of a hard cover.

Nice article, Rob--and right back atcha! Your question as to the possibility of being published reminds me of Isaac Asimovs mathematical re-iteration of human knowledge: In the middle ages, one person could encompass all the learning available at that time. Comes the Reformation, one mind isn't enough anymore, what with Newton, Leibnitz, Boyle, Ben Franklin, etc. Suddewnly one has to 'pick a subject' to fully learn. Then comes specialization, industrial age invention, Edison, Hobbes, Hailey, Faraday--the specializations begin to sub-divide into specializations within specializations, etc.... This gives us too many medical journals for one doctor to read, Important doctoral theses that simply get filed away, connections missed between two researchers--Asimov's point was that even sub-specialties generate more new information than any one person can read, even if one did nothing else. So it's hardly surprising that many good authors go unpublished--'good' is no longer the criteria. Today's criteria for being published is either money or fame (as you mention) or it is a 'good author' who also writes on popular subjects, knows some influential people, and has some interesting life-experience that resonates against the writing--and photogenic don't hurt none, either...

I can see where you coming from and for that matter going, I still maintain that there is a hive of undiscovered talent within this forum that could easily match the scribbling s of some of the authors I have read. For that matter some of the newly published authors in paper back, should not have had their books published in the first place, and is proof that their book received its position because money was involved, my point what happened to the scouts of old that searched high and low for talent, and aided in moulding and developing great authors? Do they rely only on computers to find an author worth publishing? No computer will ever be developed that can replace the feeling and heart of a reader, yet good talent remains unpublished.

I agree. I never meant to suggest otherwise. I was just trying to point out the 'drinking from a fire hose' condition of written media today. For instance, Street Articles, if I let it, could easily provide me with a full day of reading--yet it is only one of many sites about which I could say the same. And who knows--maybe the future will consider Street Articles to be a 21st-century "Dial" (the literary periodical that published T.S. Eliot's poems, among others). With paper books starting to look like they'll follow the same decline as encyclopedias, magazines and newspapers, writing sites like ours may achieve an unlooked-for respectability...

Hi Rob. You're very generous, and rightly so, with your evaluation of others but definitely do not under rate your own writing. your personality comes through your writing so clearly and honestly that it simply has to be read. More power to your pen!

Rob, I was thinking just yesterday that I am spending as much time reading other articles as I am writing them but you know what I learn from each and every one of them. I sure hope you are including yourself as one of the best article writers. I always look forward to your articles and your comments on my articles.
