3 Things To Do To Prepare For Passing The Police Exam
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

If you’re going to properly prepare to take the PATI or whatever exam may happen to be given at the precinct where you’re applying, there are three things that you should do each day in order to give yourself the best chance of passing.

Make A Schedule – One of the biggest reasons for failure is that the applicant simply doesn’t take the time to make a schedule for studying. The basic attitude is, “I’ll get to it when I get to it.”

This is a recipe for disaster.

In this day and age of computers, there are plenty of scheduler's available. Use one of them. It doesn’t matter which one. Even Outlook will do fine.

Set aside a certain block of time each day to go over the study materials. Make it the same block of time so that you get into a routine. That’s really the key. Once you get into that routine, it becomes very hard to get out of it.

Make Notes – As you are going through the material, you will find that some of the material is more difficult than others and some of it is so easy that you don’t even have to think about it.

Problem is, after you’ve gone over this material, you won’t remember which is which. You won’t remember which material you can skip and which material you have to go over again.

So when you hit something that you find easy to remember, put a big √ next to the material. When you find something that is difficult and you need to go over it, put a big X next to it, meaning that it’s crossed off and you don’t have to review it again.

This will GREALTLY cut down on your study time in rehashing material that you already know.

Get Plenty Of Rest – This might sound like a strange tip, but it is important that you get sufficient sleep each day. You may find that trying to take an exam when you’re tired is difficult if not downright impossible.

This could quite possibly be the most important police exam tip of all. Oh, and of course eat right. You need to keep up your strength and energy for the big day.

These three simple things, as trivial as they may sound, could very well mean the difference between you passing and failing the police exam.

Look, the police exams are tough. The reason behind this is that the precincts want the best and the brightest but they also want to lose as few police officers in the line of duty as possible.

So if you’re serious about becoming a police officer, no matter what state you might be living in, it is critical that you are prepared to pass the police exam that you’re going to have to take.
