Casey Anthony is facing a new lawsuit related to the death of her two year old daughter and her resulting criminal trial. Roy Kronk, the former meter reader who found the remains of Caylee Anthony has reportedly filed suit in Florida courts for defamation. Anthony is one of three such cases Kronk has filed.
Kronk made several phone calls after finding what he described as a "skull in a gray bag" near the Anthony home but was dismissed the first few times. Finally, the sheriff's department did a more thorough search and found the child's remains. Anthony's defense team tried to shift much of the suspicion from their client to Kronk, even using comments from his former wife and others to make him sound guilty. Lead defense attorney, Jose Baez would later tell the jury that Caylee drowned in the family's swimming pool, accidentally. Kronk's suit contends that if Baez knew that from the beginning, then his attempt to displace blame was nothing but a lie.
Before the trial started and in its early days, the story the defense team used changed frequently, at one point indicating that they believed Kronk had had found the body before he actually made the call and that he "staged" the way it was recovered in hopes of getting money from the case. Kronk is also suing bounty hunter Leonard Padilla and the National Enquirer for defamation. The National Enquirer has filed a motion to dismiss in that case, saying in part that the article published about Kronk was based on court documents and testimony given in open court. Padilla has said that everything that he said was a matter of personal opinion.
Anthony is also being sued by Zenaida Gonzalez, a woman who claims that her life has been ruined by Casey's claims that she had kidnapped and then killed Caylee after being hired as a nanny. Gonzalez was arrested in connection with the child's disappearance before Casey finally admitted that it was a story that she had made up.
Texas Equusearch, a nonprofit group, is also suing Anthony to recoup some of the expenses that was incurred during the five months they searched for Caylee.
An attorney for Casey Anthony is also filing a motion alleging that the prosecution is in contempt of court. Jeff Ashton, the lead prosecutor in the case is alleged to have included details about Anthony's psychiatric evaluation that was originally ordered sealed by the courts in his book "Imperfect Justice".
