Girl Predicts Own Death on Facebook: Siblings Shot By Mother In Welfare Office

Rachelle Grimmer walked into the welfare offices in Laredo, Texas with her son and daughter and demanded to talk to a new caseworker, someone other than the one she had talked to before. The woman, obviously distraught, was brought to a private office to talk to a social worker about her case and the apparent issues. Grimmer had applied for and had been denied food stamps from that office in July and had last contacted them in November until she walked in on Monday.

According to the Stephanie Goodman, the spokesperson for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Rachelle Grimmer, her daughter, Ramie Marie, age 12 and son, Timothy, age 10 were taken to a private room with a social worker and a supervisor to discuss the case. As soon as they got to the private room, Grimmer revealed that she had a gun.

Negotiators from the police department contacted Grimmer during the stand off, but she hung up on them several times. She did allow the supervisor to exit the room just before 8 pm. That supervisor was reportedly unharmed. During the standoff, Ramie signed onto her Facebook account, changing her employer status to "may die 2day". She updated her status three times more during the standoff, including once to say that she was bored and once to say "tear gas seriasly" (sic). SWAT teams had moved in to surround the building by that time. The girl's grandmother responded to that update, telling her that there was no reason to be afraid. Just after that status update, Grimmer hung up with the police negotiator for the final time and then shot both of her children in the head before killing herself.

Ramie Marie died upon arrival at a San Antonio hospital, ten year old Timothy has been listed in critical condition. Grimmer's former mother in law, Mary Lee Shepherd and husband, Dale Grimmer are both coming forward saying that they have called multiple social workers worrying about the safety of the children. Shepherd said that Grimmer had had mental issues for quite a while but was not specific about what those issues might have been.

Rachelle Grimmer's application for food stamps was turned down because she was missing some information on the form. During her phone calls to the police negotiator, Grimmer reportedly had a list of problems and issues with the state and federal government and stated that she felt she was owed something.
