Is George Zimmerman Guilty?

I have seen and heard so much in the news about the case involving Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. When you remove all the opinions from our many news networks and just look at the facts it all boils down to this question: Is George Zimmerman Guilty?, and if so, can it be proved in a court of law?

That seems to be the million dollar question going round in the news and social networks all over the world, and it is creating quite a stir.

Are having so many news sources in today's media effecting investigations?

One has to wonder. When surfing this subject I found so many different angles on this that it made my head swim.

One site says he should be arrested, another says he is the victim and was justified in shooting Mr. Martin.

There were sites too racist to repeat, and some were down right evil. I am understanding more every day the dangers of the internet.

I remember many years ago it was a reporters creed to report the news and not comment on it. They would leave that to the editorial page.

The internet has changed the face of the news through social networks and twitter and the likes. Today a persons ability to instantly comment on news stories makes it a bit more challenging for law enforcement to do their investigations, and for the case to not be tried in the public instead of a courtroom.

Seems there are no winners in the Zimmerman case.. He will be guilty in one circle and not in another.

When does voicing ones opinion become a real threat?

The power of the internet is incredible. It reaches millions and the ability to influence peoples opinions and beliefs is huge. The formation of lynch mobs is not all that far fetched. This case has already produced groups screaming for blood and others ready to defend Mr. Zimmerman, and death threats have been sent to George and his family. Many people already have him tried and convicted in their minds.

One has to wonder what is next in this case. Will we ever know exactly what went on that night?

Can a person get just the news and not the opinion?

If you are on the net you really can't get the news without the opinion. Everywhere you go, when something is trending in the news, you will hear differing opinions, and one must be able to tell the difference between what are opinions and what are actual facts.

When one forms an opinion based on just what they hear on the social networks, then they start repeating what they believe, well, you see where this is going.

After all the searching and all the different opinions I read, I admit I am now more confused than ever. Is George Zimmerman Guilty?

Street Talk

Try living in So. Florida. Totally biased news here. I don't know what actually happened. I wasn't there....but the Miami news has Zimmerman convicted. He has absolutely no say to his side of the story here in Florida.

The fact is, I wasn't there, so I don't know. And we will never know Treyvon's side of the story. It's all very unfortunate.

I totally agree, Shawn! We heard lots of things when it first happened before anyone even really knew exactly what happened and people started forming opinions with little to no facts. And no, I don't believe there will ever again be real news that gives just the unbiased and un-opinionated facts -- that ship has sailed long ago. News agencies are too interested in ratings and so think that being more "friendly" instead of objective is the way to appeal to the general public...

Fact and opinion have definitely become intertwined. It's interesting to see the amount of people who now say they avoid the news because of this. I'm one of them. I find the very true scenario you mention of people forming an opinion and therefore a lynch mob disturbing. This can hardly be called justice in our 'civilised' society.

The media and the Internet, are they not all one and the same thing now? I have stopped watching news on TV and only read on the Internet items I want to, and then I take it with a pinch of salt. As article writers we expound an opinion of our own, honesty is sought but it is not always possible to get all the facts to make an educated opinion. I think a lot of the news is obtained in the same way, personal opinions being influenced by what the very reporters read on the Net.

Good points, Shawn. The media no longer just reports the news, they try to create it. Some of the facts about this case that are coming out now are facts that the media did not want to report because they have their own agenda. Never mind the truth. The media wants mob rule to decide this case.

Good point yourself, Georgia. The media does create news and media frenzy over issues without even knowing the whole story.

No...what Agenda? Had the Sanford Police Dept conducted a PROPER investigation, this whole thing would never have blown up. I love all the people who say "Innocent before proven guilty" yet those same people convicted Casey Anthony, OJ Simpson and Van der Sloot (Holloway's body has never even been found in that case) before all the evidence came out. If aproper investigation was conducted-where are the toxicology reports to prove Zimmerman was not on a cocaine trip that night (Trayvon had one done on him)? Where are the crime scene photos of the blood where ZImmerman claims his head was slammed into the ground? Were finger prints take from the gun to prove Zimemrman's story that Trayvon Martin grabbed his gun? These are just basic crime work that should have been done...at the scene on that day.
