Jerry Sandusky finally goes to jail!
Justice was served today in Bellefonte, PA. The verdict finally came in on Friday night 6-22-2012. Jerry Sandusky convicted of Sexually Assaulting 10 young boys over the course of 15 years. A jury found him guilty of 45 charges out of 48, 25 charges which were felony counts. The charges suggest a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 442 years to serve.
I can't even begin to wonder how many lives this man has ruined. I felt extreme anger and sadness at the same time after reading the testimonies from those young boys, mothers, and witnesses that came forth. Some of the statements reporting anal rape and forced oral sex of young boys between the ages of 12 and 16. As they read the verdict people say Sandusky showed no signs of remorse or emotion.
Sandusky got away with terrorizing these poor innocent children for 15 long years. He disguised himself as a savior, role model, and an active volunteer within the community. People trusted him so much, mothers would allow their children to stay over Sandusky's home for the weekend. Sandusky thought he was above the law, and he thought he would never get caught.
Sandusky did get caught a couple of times as a matter of fact. The people who knew ignored the allegations and turned their heads. One of the victims and his mother reported an incident back in 1998 to the local police. Basically the police did not take the claims too seriously and never checked into the complaint. They just chucked it up as the kid was not telling the truth and making false claims against a well known asset to the community. Another time Sandusky was caught raping a boy in the shower. The reports never even made it to the authorities or parents of the child. The allegations were reported to the administrators and officials of Penn State University, but never made it furthur. The people we trust with our children just swept it under the rug and forgot about it.
In the end everyone got what they deserved. Sandusky was convicted of 45 charges and awaits sentencing. The officials of Penn State University who knew about the incidents have been fired and are facing criminal charges for failure to report the alleged abuse.
What ever he receives for a sentence there is not a punishment in the world that can be equivalent to what Sandusky put those children through for all of those years. Im sure I can think of a few ways to punish him, but I don't want to list them here. No matter how ashamed you might be to say Im sure all of you have a few ideas of your own.
