Red Eye Revisited

This is another adventure with the Red Eye Montana Police Department. Remember that dreadful murder of chloe Davis? There has been another murder. This time it is a homeless man, Abner Wall. This town has around 500 people living here and half of them are only seasonal. It is very unusual to have so much major crime but here it is.

The victim is a homeless man , name of Abner Wall. The stray dogs were kickin' up a fuss and so the street patrol officers found Abner behind some dumpsters. The coroner said he was dead about an hour. He was stabbed in the neck.

Abner Wall was a real character around town. He never talked to anyone. Just mumbled to himself. He was real dirty. He wore some old slacks and a sweatshirt high top tennis shoes. and a bombers leather hat. He slept under a tree where he made a nest to keep warm.

Everyone likes him but he never washed so he smelled really bad. He begged for hand outs or ate out of the dumpsters. Sometimes the cook at the Blue Café would set out some food.

Lately Abner was observed counting a large some of money and eating in the Blue Café. Jody was the cook at the café, Jody asked Abner where he got all that money. Abner said he founded it under an old shack up the road. Jody called the police and told them about the money.

Detective Hugh Todd is assigned to the Abner Wall Murder. He was glad Jody called him about the money now there was a lead to follow. There was no money found on the body, so that is motive. Todd is a fine police officer , the town was all in agreement about that. He'll find the killer. Detective Todd went back to the scene of the crime to see what he could find. He was all over that alley and he found some blood on the corner of a dumpster and some blood on a broken plate. He sent the samples to the lab for testing.

It was lunch time so Officer Todd thought he would eat in the café and talk to some employees there. He walked in and there were two patrons eating. One was Carol Meek and the other was Cliff Sikes ,they were both kids. Sikes was a real tuff. He has been in trouble three or four times. Carol was the teller at the bank next door. Hi, Carol said Detective Todd Hi, she answered workin' today Carol? yea, just on lunch break She answered.. Hi Cliff, you workin' too? Hi, no I'm not workin' right now. Either of you know Abner Wall? Neither of the kids knew him. The waitress behind the counter,is Sadie. You know Abner, Sadie? I've seen him in the alley and in here a few times but I didn't know him. Jody the cook came out and said he didn't really know Abner just around town and he fed him occasionally.

Detective Todd went back to the station to see if they have the results of those tests yet. There were two messages on his phone. One that was the blood on the broken plate. It came back to Sikes and the other came back to Abner ". We are Cooking with grease" said Todd.

Detective Todd put out a warrant for the arrest of Cliff Sikes and another warrant to search Sikes house and car. They searched Sikes house and found the money in the ceiling tiles. There was about 10,000 dollars. There was still one unanswered question, where did the money come from?

Todd questioned Sikes and he said he had robbed the gas station mini-mart on the edge of town. It was about a month ago and he hide it. He planned to spend it a little at a time but Abner Wall saw him hide the money and took it. Sikes saw Abner countin' the money and killed him.

Well that's it for now. See you again?
