Disabled Adults Held Captive: Criminally Cruel Intentions And Identity Theft

Criminal charges are pending for Gregory Thomas Jr, Linda Ann Weston and Eddie Wright, also called "the Reverend Ed" after four mentally and physically disabled adults were discovered chained in a small basement room in a rented house. Weston served time for murder some twenty years ago is being held on a $2.5 million dollar bond. Weston and the others are being charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and may have been stealing the Social Security checks from the four adults. Evidence gathered in the home may indicate that the ring involves more than just the four known victims and included items such as id cards, power of attorney forms and other documentation that numbered in the dozens.

Reports are now surfacing that the trio may have been living with several disabled adults in other states as well. Neighbors in West Palm Beach, Florida report that they had seen the adults with various injuries to their faces, including one woman who had what was being described as a possible large burn on her face. Weston and Thomas were approached about the sounds of shouting and some of the injuries but explained to authorities that the people they were caring for fought with one another, often leaving wounds and marks.

The trio had been in the Philadelphia area for roughly two weeks when the landlord of the house they were renting made the horrific discovery. Responding to a complaint about barking dogs, the landlord found a chained door hidden by a blanket. Further investigation led to the discovery of the four adults, three men and one woman, in a room described as too small to stand upright in. No food, furniture or water was found in that room nor was any type of toilet facility. Three dogs were also being kept in the area with the adults, who were treated at a local hospital before being released to a social services agency.

Linda Ann Weston was arrested for a murder charge two decades ago after she had attacked her sister's then boyfriend with a broom. After knocking the man unconcious, Weston locked him in a closet where he remained until his death from starvation several weeks later. Weston has been alleged to have met one of her victims through an online dating service and then moving him and the others from Texas, to Florida and then finally on to Philadelphia.

The four adults range in age from 29 to 41 but have the mental capacity of a yong child. There are reports of additional physical problems including partial blindness. Some of the victims have been reunited with some of their family members but authorities are having problems finding anyone for Herbert Knowles.

In another twist to the story, a 15 year old runaway is to be reunited with her mother after she disappeared from her Florida home on July 4th. Benita Rodriquez was reported to have last been seen with Gregory Thomas before disappearing. She was not a victim nor suspect in the kidnapping and will be returned home to her mother.
