Have you ever dreamt of spending a week or two in the Caribbean or Mediterranean on a 40ft plus charter sail or motor yacht? If you have not yet been lucky enough to experience a sailing vacation you should seriously consider one.
Just Blame The Rum
I know that many of you will think that it’s not for you because you get sea sick. A large number of our guests have that same fear so before they leave for their vacation they either buy drowsy free sea sick pills or get their doctors to prescribe sea sick patches.
About 10 years ago when my wife and I first started as a charter boat skipper and hostess quite a few of our passengers were seasick. With the new and better medicine available now days it seems that for most people sea sickness is no longer a problem. If there is sickness on board it is usually the result of a little to much rum.
Destination
The destination you choose to go and charter can naturally have a big influence on whether you get sick or not. If you want to go and sail on the big blue ocean then more than likely, if fact I guaranteed it, most of you will get sick. However, if you choose to go to a place like the British Virgin Islands (BVI’s) in the leeward Caribbean Islands, you will have an experience that will make you hunger for more and more.
One third of the world’s sailboat charter fleet it is claimed can be found here.
Real Paradise
The BVI’s is one of the world’s most idyllic safe sailing areas. It seems that when this paradise was created, water sport was its top priority. Sailing, diving, kite boarding, surfing and board sailing are enjoyed here each year by millions of people from all over the world. Its warm tropical waters and ever present cooling trade winds make this a real paradise.
You Choose
If you are a fairly competent sailor and want to experience what it is like to skipper a boat yourself then invite a few friends and charter a bare boat. Your only limits are, your proven ability, the length and type of boat you want sail and of coarse affordability.
Most people with limited holiday time go on a 7 day crewed charter. They want to party or just relax without the hassle of being responsible for the running of the ship. The job of the charter boat skipper and hostess is to make sure that their guests are having the time of their lives in a safe and secure environment and because both are very well qualified they can be relied on to do a great job.
Catamaran Or Mono Hull
If it’s your first time choose a catamaran.
Dreams to Reality
I recently heard from one of our previous guest who sailed with us about 8 years ago. He told me how his first charter boat experience convinced him and his wife to work towards living their dream and complete a world cruise. That dream is still on going today as they have just arrived on their 36 ft catamaran in New Zealand after setting out from Miami USA 2 years ago.
They are not the only ones and you will find many blue water cruisers who will tell you that it was their first crewed charter in the BVI’s that inspired their adventure of a life time.
