Sailboat Charter Cruising In The British Virgin Islands – The Last Three Days

These are the last three days that we will be sailing in the British Virgin Islands. Let us discover what these islands have to offer.

The Dogs

We have cleared the entrance to the island of Anagada in the British Virgin Islands on day five and are presently enjoying a leisurely sail to the Dog Islands. These islands named Great Dog West Dog , George Dog and East and West Seal Dog lie to the west of Virgin Gorda. Remember we passed them on day three.

The Islands are under the protectection of the BVI’s National Trust so that just about everything is off limits, except snorkeling and diving.

Many BVI anchorages have mooring buoys installed so the boats do no have to use their anchors thereby protecting the sea floor and coral from getting damaged. When you have no alternative but to drop the hook, you must make sure that you anchor on a sandy sea floor.

Sailing, Sailing

After sailing almost two and a half hours we have just dropped the main and furled the head sail. Everyone enjoyed their turn at the wheel and I notice that you are now more confident in helping me run the ship.

We anchor at beautiful George Dog in crystal clear shallow water. It’s time to swim, snorkel, sunbathe and generally wash away the few remaining remnants of last nights partying at Anegada. I can see that those of you who are snorkeling are really enjoying all the great sea life this quiet little bay has to offer.

Lunch, exquisitely prepared by our busy hostess is an array of all kinds of cold cuts and salads.

Happy Hour

It’s already four o’clock and we reluctantly up anchor and hoist the sails so we can head for our nights anchorage at Marina Cay.We arrive just in time for happy hour at the open bar on top of the hill where we live artists entertain us. This is a lot of fun but the rum is taking its toll so after a great meal on board of pork tender loin and pasta it is now 9.30pm and most of us are having an early night.

Snorkel

After another great breakfast, we begin day six with a lovely snorkel off the Great Camanoe Island. The beautiful coral and abundant amount of small fish, in every shape, colour and variety is truly amazing to see. It feels as if you are swimming in an endless aquarium - absolutely stunning.

An Exciting Dive

We arrive for lunch at Brewers Bay, our favorite bay on the main island Tortola. It’s quiet as usual with only 2 other boats in this large bay. After an early lunch I want to take you on a dive off the northeastern point. This point juts quite far out into the sea and has a steep drop off.

Upon entering the water I am sure you all feel a little nervous as its seems to give off that kind of vibe here. Never mind just follow me. We drop down and the stay at about 45 – 50 feet, then following the shore line which consists of huge rocks with wonderful swim- throughs.

This is an exciting dive and we are lucky to see a pair of large eagle rays with 4 foot wing spans as well as a 6 foot grey reef shark. The coral here is very dense and the colors just unreal.

Jost Van Dyke

Excited and feeling strong we again hoist sail and then on a broad reach head for the party of all Caribbean party islands, Jost Van Dyke. Anyone that has been or has heard of the BVI’s will probably have heard of Foxy’s. This famous open bar restaurant has all sailors, boaters, locals and everyone else rock the night away, night after night. At about eight o’clock I take you to Foxy’s and when you find yourselves partied out give me a call and I will come and fetch you. Enjoy, enjoy.

White Bay

After a slow start to day six we will be spending the rest of the day anchored at a bay just round the corner, the stunningly brilliant white beach bay of White Bay. Here we relax, swim and enjoy the great beach and beach bars.

This is relaxation at its finest. We are having fun reminiscing about our weeks great adventure and naturally making plans to do it again either here at the BVI’s or perhaps St. Martin or the Grenadines. There are plenty of exciting new destinations all over the world to choose from.

Pirates

We have spent the seventh night at Sopers Hole, a deep bay where in the good old days Black Beard and other reprobates use to hang out. It’s time to say goodbye and to some of you in Caribbean style we say “we be seeing you next year mon”.
