The Mammoth - A New Location for Gncc

The Mammoth is a new location on the GNCC calendar this year. The racing track was a new avenue for all the drivers. The track is located on the rocky hills of the Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, Kentucky.

It was designed by “Mr. GNCC” Barry Hawk together with the employees of Racer Productions. Hawk was the seven-time GNCC ATV Champion, becoming a permanent fixture in the podium.

It boasts some of the most challenging topography on the circuit. It is a combination of fast, rolling field sections, lots of light cut, and technical wood trails. It was rocky, tight, and nearly dry and the hill climb was a challenge even to the most experienced racers. Everyone was wound up to experience a never been ridden track. They were faced with trying to learn new trails and figure out an ideal machine setup. It makes the riders think and not just spin it.

The tight sections were difficult to get around since there was usually one racing line only. The race course itself is very demanding and the weather was not even better. It tested the endurance of the riders.

Jarrod McClure and his team experienced an instant the flag dropped and contested to lead the lead pack. It was a good start until he ran over a wheel of another machine. The collision launched his ATV in the air. The rear end was about four feet higher in the air than the front wheels. McClure managed to keep a hold of his ATV and actually ran with the leaders in the third place into the second lap.

McClure seized the fourth place in the final two laps. But he had to refuel on the last lap in order to make sure he completed the two hours and 18 minute race. In the end, it was a good finish for McClure. This is a great move for him to the 6th place in the GNCC XC1 Pro.

McClure is really grateful to Mark Spataro of Motor Pro Training for his help and guidance with the young racer’s fitness program. A great fitness coach can really help a racers program and confidence especially in finishing races.

Jarrod McClure started to join races in Pennsylvania when he was just 15. Since he did a lot in all those years, he went to the national level GNCC events. The last three years proved him to be one of the strong contenders for the year 2009. Jarrod was ecstatic as a member of the National Guard Yokley Racing ATV Team for 2011. In this race in Mammoth, McClure was the fourth overall and also the fourth in the XC1 Pro Class.

The 5th round of the Can-Am 2012 GNCC Series heads to Springville, Indiana on May 12 and 13 for the Limestone 100 GNCC.
