Among the finest colonial hotels in Southeast Asia, The Strand Hotel Yangon and its sister product the luxury Ayeyarwady river cruise the Strand Cruise together offer travelers to Myanmar an unforgettable holiday experience.

The Strand Cruise

The Strand Cruise began its inaugural season of luxury cruises between the fascinating destinations of Mandalay and Bagan in January 2016. In doing so, it has brought the legendary style, heritage and world-renowned reputation of The Strand Hotel Yangon to the picturesque Ayeyarwady - also known as The Elephant River.

The purpose-built 61-metre ship operating these Myanmar luxury cruises is a reinvention of the unique personality of The Strand Hotel Yangon within a contemporary river cruise experience.

The Strand Cruise itinerary sees it operating four night cruises from Bagan to Mandalay and three night cruises from Mandalay to Bagan, with weekly departures in both directions. These are available until the end of April 2016, and then from mid July through to the end of December 2016.

Passengers enjoy remarkable journeys of discovery like no other, as they make their way between what are two of Asia’s most fascinating destinations in Bagan and Mandalay. Bagan is an enchanting sight to behold with its more than 2,000 temples, stupas and pagodas, while Mandalay is the last royal capital of Burma.

On these luxury Myanmar river cruises, the Strand Cruise ship visits palaces, monasteries and remote villages along the way. It moors at enchanting spots such as Old Bagan and at the foot of an ancient Buddhist monastery on Sagaing Hill in Mandalay. Excursions take in iconic landmarks like U-Bein Bridge in Mandalay, some of the main temples in Bagan including Tant Kyi Taung temple and the royal cities of Mingun and Ava.

As the latest embodiment of the Strand legacy, the Strand Cruise ship blends exceptional comfort, discreet personalised service and the latest technology. The accommodation is lavish, with 27 cabins available in the categories of Deluxe Cabins (10), Strand Cabins (13), State Suites (two) and Strand Suites (two), and the onboard facilities world-class with a fine dining restaurant, wine cellar, lounge and library corner, swimming pool, spa and wellness area and Upper Deck for cocktails and socializing.

The Strand Hotel Yangon

Built in the early 1900s, The Strand Hotel Yangon in Myanmar’s largest city was declared by John Murray in his Handbook for Travellers written in the same period to be “the finest hostelry east of Suez”. Today, this iconic 5 star property with its 31 majestic suites blends the character of its earlier days as a meeting place for explorers and raconteurs with exceptional standards of modern comfort, service and technology.

The Strand Hotel Yangon took shape as its founders the Sarkies Brothers looked to further build on their success with the Eastern and Oriental Hotels in Penang and Raffles Hotel in Singapore. During the colonial period the hotel was patronized by royalty, nobility and various distinguished persons such as writers George Orwell, Somerset Maugham, Rudyard Kipling and Noel Coward.

In 1988 the hotel was sold and renovated extensively to return it to its former glory and by 1993 had reopened as an all suite, deluxe boutique hotel and staying true to its original architectural heritage. The landmark property was listed on the Yangon City Heritage List and among the select members of the Most Famous Hotels in the world.

Experience The Majesty Of Both

With the ‘Launch Promotion’ on offer from the Strand Cruise to celebrate its inaugural season, travelers can combine their luxury Ayeyarwady river cruise with a stay at sister property The Strand Hotel Yangon.

The promotion sees those who book a Strand Cabin, State Suite or Strand Suite on a Strand Cruise up to the end of April 2016 (except for the 29 April departure) receive a one night complimentary stay at The Strand Hotel Yangon.
