Great Customer Service And Lasagne In Blue Lagoon Spain

Customer Service is one of the main reasons why anyone returns to a shop or business more than once. Often good customer service is hard to find. I thought I would share this recent experience which combined the worst and the best and the difference it has made.

Whilst preparing Lasagne for dinner our Teka oven stopped working. Fortunately my neighbour is an electrician. After a little investigation it was decided that the oven setting switch was the problem. We found that other than a couple of heating elements, and a lightbulb, there was actually little else other than the switch which could have failed.

The internet is a wonderful thing. Armed with the model number, within 10 minutes I had the part number of the switch concerned and a potential supplier. The bad news was that there was a predicted delivery time of 20 days for the item. Cleary I was going to wait a long time for my Lasagne.

The following day I found a domestic appliance repair shop. I use the word “shop” loosely, this was essentially a junk yard for old electrical appliances. But this place looked promising, clearly the person running it was capable of taking equipment apart and hopefully putting it back together again in one piece and working.

There were carcasses of washing machines, cookers and other domestic appliances which had all been scavenged for parts. After explaining the problem he wanted to know when I wanted him to call to my house. This was not necessary but clearly was his preference. His call out charge was not unreasonable but for a part that was worth 11 Euros ridiculous. After insisting that all I wanted was to order the replacement part he told me to return tomorrow at 10am with the part but I would have to get him the part number. Fortunately I already had it, but that should be his job.

Keen to get the replacement part ordered asap I returned the following morning. The shop was shut, I waited a while and then gave up and continued to my office very unimpressed wondering if I would ever cook again.

The following morning I passed the “The Electrical Shop” in Blue Lagoon, located on the road between San Miguel de Salinas and Campoamor near Torrevieja in Spain. It is part of the European wide Euronics group of electrical shops. I have heard good things about them with regards to supplying new electrical items. So I stopped and thought I would ask if they could order the part or could give me advice.

The lady serving was obviously busy but as soon as she saw me, she stopped and asked if she could help. I explained the problem. Within seconds she asked me the model number of the oven. She advised that they sold the Teka brand and she would call the local engineer. Once she had a solution she would call me back.

She left me a message advising that she had a solution and could I get in touch. On my return journey the same day I called back into the store. I was immediately recognised and within seconds presented with an oven switch. I was informed that it was from a similar model and should work. Try it out, was the message. If it works, great, keep it free of charge, if not they would order a new one. That evening my neighbour and I fit the part and it worked perfectly. I returned to the store and thanked them. Still no charge, so I left a tip.

Impressed by the service I had received I decided to do a bit of research. The lady who served me so well is Debbie. I was not surprised to discover that she has won awards for Customer Focus and Customer Service and was also named “Company Women’s” 2011 Business Woman of the year.

In these competitive times the personal touch is often missing but when delivered and delivered well it creates a great Customer Service experience which is appreciated by everyone. Customer Service is a great way to differentiate between yours and your competitors business. It does not need to be complicated, require massive training or huge expense to provide, when done well it makes a difference.

I know where I will be going the next time something goes wrong with something electrical in my home. Thanks to Debbie and her team I have finally had my Lasagne without waiting forever.
