When you call a school, hospital, or any of a variety of other businesses, you may be put on hold so that the person who answered the phone can pull up your file, get your records, or get someone who can better serve you. While you are on hold, you might listen to the company's advertising. Often, however, you hear music.
In a recent conversation with another Twitter member, the member mentioned that she was currently on hold, listening to a song that she did not care for. I replied that this song would get on my nerves, as well. There are songs, however, that I would love to hear if I were put on hold.
One song that I would love to hear, as I mentioned in our conversation, is Pink's latest, titled "Just Give Me a Reason". It is a beautiful song, and when I hear it, it makes me smile. This song is not the only song that I would enjoy hearing if I were put on hold, however.
Another song that I would like to hear if I were on hold is "Carry On", the latest song by fun. I like this song because of its message of perseverance and its catchy melody.
Finally, I would enjoy listening to "Drive By" by Train while I waited for someone to help me. I would like to hear "Drive By" because it is a fun song, and a fun song would make the experience of being on hold much less annoying.
The one bad thing about hearing music that I like while I am on hold is that I might sing along. Then, if the person answers the phone while I am singing, I could embarrass myself. However, in most cases, the individuals I would be speaking with would not know me personally, and they would have no way of seeing me as we talked. By being unable to see me, they would not see my red face. I would therefore be able to recover from my embarrassment and get the help I needed.
Another way of putting this situation in perspective is to keep in mind that these individuals are not talent scouts for a televised singing competition, such as "The Voice" or "American Idol". They are involved in other industries. They are concerned with doing their job and earning a paycheck, rather than critiquing my singing.
By keeping these points in mind, I can keep things in perspective. I can then get off the phone and return to my computer, where I can publish more articles for my loyal readers to read.
