Down And Dirty Bike Race

Warsaw Missouri is again the host to the Down and Dirty Bike Race. The race will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the new mountain bike course just east of the Truman Lake Dam.

There will be plenty of signs in case you don't know where the park is located. If you're routing yourself via GPS, the actual address is 28565 Benton House Ave, Warsaw, MO 65355.

This is a relatively new park, but in just a few short years, the park has hosted some major mountain bike events. On race days, riders from all over the country travel to the Missouri Ozarks to participate and watch the events.

There are almost twenty miles of trails that have a variety of levels of difficulty. There are several loops, depending on your skill level.

The beginner's loop is known as Larry's Groove Train. It is 1 ½ miles in length and is considered a beginners trail. There may be more downhill runs than uphill on this trail.

Hard Work – is the name of the 7 mile loop. There are a lot of steep hills on this one. This trail has a lot of tough, rocky, steep, nasty obstacles. It's a tough one.

Come and Get Some – is what they call the perimeter loop that connects all the various trails together. It is a total of 19 or 20 miles, so make sure you're hydrated.

The views on these trails change from heavy woods to beautiful vistas right along the lake shore of Truman Lake.

About This Quaint Little Town

Warsaw is a small, historic, Midwestern town population approximately 2100, located near Truman Dam. The dam is a US Army Corps of engineers flood control project that was started in the 1950's and the reservoir was open for business in the late 1970's. The Dam actually separates Truman Lake from the Lake of the Ozarks. These two lakes account for huge amounts of tourism in Missouri.

The town is about an hour and a half drive southeast of Kansas City, and about the same distance north of Springfield, Missouri. There are good roads so you can drive your RV, motorcycle, or bicycle to get to this town.

Airports

We have three airports in the area, so you can fly your small plane here as well.

Warsaw Airport Code RAW – 3300 Ft Concrete Runway With Fuel Station

Lincoln Airport Code OR2 – 2940 Ft Turf Runway

Truman Lake There are several landing zones on the water.

About 25 miles north, you can connect to the Katy Trail, a rails to trails bicycle trail that spans most of the way across Missouri from Kansas City to Saint Louis. The Katy is accessible for riders of all levels, including those with disabilities. If your interest includes equestrian, you can ride horses on the western segment of the trail from the town of Calhoun to Sedalia. Horses are not allowed on the rest of the trail.

This area attracts fisherman and sportsmen. With the addition of the mountain bike park, tourism includes bicycling and you see a lot of bicycles in and around the area.

Stop by Warsaw, and meet the friendly people here. Ride your bike, or get on your boat and fish or ski.
