How to Bicycle Faster

To ride faster than you can by now, there are many factors and variables that come into play. When it comes to riding faster in this context I mainly mean flat terrain, hilly terrain and uphill. There is a some different context when you are riding downhill, but the same factors also then pertain to a certain extent. Compared to a car you as a cyclist only have your own strength and endurance as engine power, and you also have to deal with the resistance that increases the faster you ride. You certainly can ride faster if you focus on some main factors.

Equipments

  • Bicycle helmet. If you choose an aerodynamic helmet you can lower wind resistance, but you have to keep in mind that these most aerodynamic helms are uncomfortable to wear.
  • Bicycle. When it's come to gears, one of the most important aspects. To ride faster you have to choose a racing cycle, and if you intend to ride faster you can choose a so-called tempo cycle. But a tempo cycle is very uncomfortable when you ride downhill, uphill and curvy roads. Carbone frame is lighter and stiffer than other frames, and that help you ride faster.
  • Wheels. You can decrease wind resistance if you choose aerodynamic wheels, and you can for sure ride faster with disc wheels, but they are dangerous in a side wind.
  • Cycle shoes and click pedals. Yes, it is a must, you gain a lot more power if you use click pedals and cycle shoes.
  • Clothing. It's obvious, flapping clothing expands the wind resistance. Well designed cycle clothes reduces the resistance.
  • Tires. Tire treads also have an impact, and the tire air pressure is very important to ride faster. A lot of air pressure is necessary.

Technique

Sitting posture on the cycle is important to reducing wind resistance. If you want to ride fast have in mind that you have to become aerodynamic, body down parallel to the road. To get a good sitting posture on the cycle you have to adjust so it fits your body, and that's a science in itself.

Resistance

Resistance increases proportional to increased speed. Thus if you increase your speed by 1 you get 4 times as much resistance. You also have to deal with resistance from wind, and it's important to have in mind aerodynamic to reducing this resistance.

Exercise and Training

For sure you probably will cycle faster with more training, but it depends on how much you have cycled before. If you are new to cycling you can achieving greater progress than if you have cycled for some time. What sort of training and exercise is most effective? The best method to get fast results are interval training, and over relatively long time in high intensity. Here is an example: 4 min. Cycling and 2 min rest. 4 times. Do this 2 to 3 times a week. You can train with light intensity as much as you want in between.

By conducting parts or all these suggestions there is certainly possible to ride your bicycle a lot faster.
