How Spiritual Inquiry Can Help Handle Trading Emotions

It is an irrefutable fact that an understanding of your spirituality and of yourself which obviously includes your trading emotions, are much closer linked than you think.

Consider this: Many traders have anger issues. I had them too. In the first years of my trading I used to get really angry with myself whenever I lost and in the early days that was often.

My trading was focused more on anger with myself, my poor trading, the markets, the market makers, you name it. It got so bad that I had to find a way out of this cycle of fear based emotional roller coaster.

Underneath most of our trading emotions lurks the fear of extinction, literally. There is the fear of never recovering from a loss, losing everything we have and becoming destitute. These fears are closely allied to the anxiety of carrying on trading, as it is the only way to make up for the losses, and so it goes on. Well, you get the picture.

All anger based emotions, including, anxiety and despair are ultimately born out of a deep fear of losing our identity. Losing one's identity is akin do dying. In fact in our primal subconscious minds they are both the same.

All fear based trading emotions stem from a total misunderstanding of our true nature.

You see yourself as a human being with limitations when in actual fact you are an infinite spiritual being presently in human form who has not woken up to its connection to infinite possibilities yet.

Sounds strange? Let me explain: We view our lives and of course our trading through the lens of duality. Duality creates separation. It makes us look at the trading world and the world in general as good or bad with very little in between. Science has shown us what the wisdom traditions have been teaching for thousands of years, namely that the universe is a belief driven interconnected soup of energy.

The ebb and flow of cycles are part of a harmonious interplay of cosmic forces, of which you the trader here on earth are playing a vital integral part. You are part of the universe and not separate from it. As such you are also part of its infinite powers of creation.

Your energy is immense. It is estimated that a single human being has enough power to provide electricity for a city the size of New York for 3 weeks, maybe longer. Now, you believe that you need to be fearful of anything? Are you afraid of your own power?

Ultimately, the reason you are afraid, have trading emotions and all sorts of other emotions that are holding you back, is your lack of understanding of your true nature and your unwillingness to step into new possibilities. I have written about this subject from many angles in the hope that some of you will get the message, because when you do, your life will change.

I have been down the path through my journey as a trader. The pursuit of trading mastery got me closer in touch with myself. It was not without a fight, as like most traders, I did not want to go down the route less travelled, the route of self inquiry. That was too deep and too daunting. When I did though and I began embracing a new understanding of who I am, becoming congruent with a very different way of interacting with the markets and my world in general, my trading changed. I could trade from a Zen trading perspective and this made me feel good about myself and happy inside.

Ultimately, if trading mastery is your goal and you desire to enjoy your life, not only as a trader but life as a whole you owe it to yourself to look deeper and find out the real truth of you. I promise you when you do, your fears, anger, anxieties, and all the insecurities you have about yourself will start falling away, your trading emotions vanish and your connection to the markets will go direct, no more interference from mental chatter. I sincerely hope that you can see just how powerful this can be for your trading success.

Thank you Eugene, for your kind words. It's much appreciated. I think all true mastery, not only trading mastery, can only be achieved once we embrace our spiritual side
