Half way across the world a battle is taking place that could change the way Americans view their government and the wealthy people within it. Russian oligarchs are coming under increased scrutiny in their home country because of their vast wealth that was created in the confusing period that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union. Many of these people are now facing court cases because of potential ties to organized crime and the mafia. Nonetheless, they are mostly in trouble with the government because they own so much of the country’s assets while there are millions of starving people on the streets. In the United States a similar problem will unfold sometime soon.
Making Lots of Money
As soon as the Soviet Union collapsed, there were many state-owned enterprises that were stripped by people who had the power and support to do so. The parts were sold to foreign companies and the machinery was sold to the highest bidder. In some cases, the entire business was just used to produce the exact same things when it was state owned, except it profited one man or organization.
For many years these oligarchs were allowed to make billions of dollars with these state owned enterprises that were never properly auctioned off by the country. The reason they were allowed to maintain their status was because they paid so much money to maintain president Boris Yeltsin. After he was toppled the oligarchs were not able to control Putin as well as they would have liked.
Changing Attitudes
There was always a very negative attitude towards the oligarchs who came into the country and started to earn billions and billions of dollars while the majority of the Russian population started to feel the effects from post-Communism shock therapy. Nothing was worse for many of the Russian families who could not even afford to pay for food.
In the United States there are many people who feel the exact same way. In fact, many of the richest men in the world are Americans who have made a lot of money. Obviously, these men did so with a legal and moral background that is quite better than the Russian oligarchs. However, the truth remains that millions of people in America are struggling with money, their debts including many who need payday loan debt help. Every day hard working Americans need payday loan relief all over the country while the others are enjoying their millions and millions of dollars.
Yes David they will work ou tin the end as God wants it.....You are so right bout that...not to worry I will never let go of my faith.
these can be very scary times we are living in....My faith will guide me as I walk with God in my heart...Political subjects are scary right now as well...our country has never been in this bad of a shape....I have faith that this will change for the better....Or....hmmm
No we must have faith. Yes politicians are less than stellar and times are scary but things always work out in the end right?
Interesting article, as Maria said don't think it will ever change. The UK gov threatens to Tax the rich heavily but they are able to side step it with loop holes and crafty accounting unlike the working man who has to pay all he owes.
The rich always seem to be able to find the loopholes one way or another.
Very interesting article David. Unfortunately this is how they make it work having the benefits for themselves while there are people out there being hungry and not being able to pay for food or their homes. Unfortunately, I do not think this situation will ever be solved since taking a look back in history the same thing goes over and over for different nations worldwide.
True there will always be the great divide between the rich and the poor.
Interesting David. This is the weak part of government. Ours is is supposed to protect the rights of the individual, all of us equally. We should all have an equal chance for prosperity. And that does not mean equal distribution of wealth. If oligarchs in Russia or the US "buy" government positions, then it'll never be an even playing field.
