Pink Ombre Cake
What you need for the cake
- 2 boxes cake mix white or vanilla
- 4 bowls
- 4 8" or 9" pans (or use the same one, we know you don't have 4, I sure don't)
- pink food coloring ( I use Wilton, any food gel will work)
Here you will find instructions on how to make a pink ombre cake, but you could use whatever color using this technique. First, we are going to start with the cake. You will need two boxes of vanilla or white cake mix. Mix these up according to the package directions and split between four bowls. Using the pink food coloring, make each bowl of mix a shade darker than the next...example:) 4 drops in one bowl, 3 drops in the next, 1 drop, then none. Bake these up following instructions on the box. Stack them up using white frosting between each layer. This is your ombre cake on the inside.
Pink ombre frosted
We have a beautiful ombre cake on the inside, why not make it just as cool on the outside. You can achieve this with tub frosting or your own frosting recipe, just make sure it is a white or vanilla shade. Take your white frosting and divide into four bowls and use the pink food coloring to shade each differed making the lightest shade really light or white.
To begin, we want to give our cake a crumb coat, which is a thin layer of your white frosting to cover the cake. Don't worry about looks, it is just to seal in your crumbs!! Then we are going to move on to the color. Start with the darkest pink on the bottom and spread it around the bottom third using a spatula, as even as possible. Using a turntable for your cake is key!! But is doable without one. Next, use your next color on the second third and the light on the top third. Use the lightest or the white, however you want it to look, on the top. For the final look, use a frosting comb, or your spatula, to make it smooth. Sweep it around your cake a few times until it is looking good! And.. tadaaa!! You have yourself an ombre cake from the inside to the outside.
Finished Touches
Now that you have your ombre cake, adding simple decor will make it elegant. A single flower, a number candle if it's for a birthday cake. A small banner strung by toothpicks with someones' name, or a figurine of a party theme, the options are endless! And most of all, have fun when you bake cake!!
