Every year on the 6th of July Kazakhstan celebrates Astana day.

Astana day is one of the most important and most celebrated day in Kazakhstan. This year it is celebrated the 13th birthday.

The celebrations lasts for six days beginning from the 1st of July till the 6th of July.

Many significant cultural events take place during these days.

This year it has started with the II International action film festival "Astana". Many famous actors from Hollywod, Europe, Asia and Russia have participated in the festival. So this year we had Steven Seagal, Armand Assante, Michael Madsen and Michelle Rodriguez from Hollywood. The idea to organize the festival was initiated by Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the movie "Wanted". The festival started on the 1st of July and ended on the 4th of July.

Except of the film festival there were many other cultural events like show performances, ballets, operas, concerts with participation of the local and russian artists, musicians, composers, the opera singers like Sara Brightman, etc.

Literally every single corner, square or a public place was occupied with performances, public or traditional games, exibitions or simple open air fairs where locals would have a traditional meal from the chiefs of local restaurants.

Many shopping centers have reduced their prices to up to 70% off the regular price due to the celebration.

Another cultural event - the Nomadic civilization festival "Milleniums around Astana" took place from the 3rd to the 6th of July. The festival was especially created to underline a unity of opposites of the past and present. The main ain of the festival was to show a life of ancient nomads and to impose respect to the ancient kazakh culture. Especially for the festival there were created yurtas - the homes of ancient nomads made from felt. The organizers tried to copy the exterior and interior of the yurtas in the exact way, so that the visitors would feel the atmosphere of the ancient time. During these three days on the main scene the visitors could listen to the turks music and watch traditional cultural danсing and performances.

As the initial program of the celebration was very rich for artists, on the 4th of July many fans of Sting were waiting for his performance in Astana. The price of the ticket for his concert varied from 70 to 700 US dollars. However, Sting has cancelled his concert in Astana and made an official comment on his blog about the cancellation.

The main and last event was waiting the younger population of Astana on the 6th of July when among the local and russian pop artists we had famous singers Arash and Jey Sean singing on a pop concert "Star rain in Astana". Jey Sean even recorded dancing fans during singing and promised to post the video on youtube.
