“busy Bus” In Wales

Before I left for my cruise, I did my homework in finding other tours since ship tours are getting pricey. The drawback is that they better get you back on the ship on time otherwise you’re on your own to get to the next port; the ships tours if late, they must get you to the next port of call.

Through social media, I found the company called Busy Bus. Before I left for my cruise, I received an email with instructions on what to do. One of the items was they Busy Bus was to meet us at the ship.

Because of weather related, we had to skip our stop the day before, our ship docked early in Holyhead, Wales. I got off the ship and looked around for the Busy Bus but didn’t. When I approached one of the ships workers, he told me I had to get on the shuttle bus to get to the other side. I wasn’t sure what to do when I mentioned about meeting this tour but he was firm telling me I had to go to the other side.

To make a long story short, Busy Bus was informed they could not park by the ship. Because there was no way to let us know on short notice, it made it difficult for the people of busy Bus to get us organized and of course, people were upset. But in the end, all ended well.

Andrea was our tour guide and Jim the driver. Both were professional and fantastic. Andrea was funny and full of information.

Our first stop was Caenarfon with a famous castle and harbour front. If you wanted to visit the castle, the entrance fee was an extra. I didn’t feel like we’d have enough time so instead I explored the cute town. Unfortunately we stayed 20 minutes longer sitting in the bus. Andrea patiently waited for a couple then she had to make the unfortunate decision to leave. Andrea contacted her superiors about the couple. Whatever happened to them, I don’t know. Hopefully one of the other buses got them.

The next was a brief stop at Snowdonia National Park. Beautiful range of mountains and valleys, a peaceful place for those that like hiking and maybe those that one to give it a try.

Our next stop was much too short at Betws-Y-Coed. It was our lunch stop so I headed over to Banjo’s for a cheese sandwich. You order at the cashier, you’re given a number then they will bring it to your table. I wanted something quick so I can spend more time exploring.

Betws-Y-Coed is a small village that lies in the Snowdonia National Park. St. Mary’s Church is an active Anglican church built 1870-1873. With limited time, I didn't go in. The outside is rubble stone with sandstone dressing and slanted roof.

Next door is Royal Oak Hotel. What a great setting for this hotel surrounded by mountains.

Conwy was our next stop. The castle is from King Edward 1. Again it was extra if you wanted to go inside the castle but I opted to walk around town along the back streets. I loved the colourful signs of the pubs and shops.

I made my way down to the harboufront. I debated whether to go into Liverpool Arms pub for a half pint but the clock was ticking too rapidly. The harbour is gorgeous with the surrounding mountains; small colourful boats dot the water.

I wanted to go inside “the Smallest House in Great Britain” but two women were gabbing, as I looked curiously. No one asked anything so I left. It costs 1 GBP to visit the house.

The buildings of Conwy are not the same design or colour. One building will have the exterior as stone built then the next is black and white.

I went back to the castle, stopped at the shop near the castle for an ice cream cone. It was so warm that afternoon; I sat out at one of the few tables.

Our last stop was Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. It is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest name on Earth. People call it Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll. It is at the railway station, which is near the Visitor’s Centre; people stop and take the photos. The name means [St.] Mary's Church (Llanfair) [in] the hollow (pwll) of the white hazel (gwyngyll) near (goger) the rapid whirlpool (y chwyrndrobwll) [and] the church of [St.] Tysilio (llantysilio) with a red cave ([a]g ogo goch). Got that?

What a gorgeous day it was! And we did luck out on the weather. Three weeks after my visit, when I emailed the company, the owner told me it had rained since my visit.
