For those who are afraid of flying, no matter how many times they fly or how many times there’re assured of the safety of flying the thought of their big bird shooting straight down to the ground will never go away .This is their worst nightmare or daymare for that matter.
This does not mean they have to spend their flying time nervous as ever just waiting for something bad to happen. In fact properly mastered or managed flight fear can be turned into wonderful experiences. There are some principal things to understand when it comes to flight fear.
Remember it all starts from your mind. All fear has one common factor: the unknown.
Knowledge is key
Knowing how an aero plane works and how air turbulence affects air travel will most certainly calm your fears and help you weather the storm on these bumpy rides. You see just the same way you know that a bumpy ride in a car is due to uneven road surfaces and not to the car running into an accident the a bumpy air plane trip is due to air turbulence and the aero plane is not waiting to crash any minute.
One thing to consider in controlling flight fear is the fact that it is sometimes accompanied by vomiting and so one needs to travel on a light stomach to allay ones fears that the next ting coming out is your last meal. That trick works well for me since I too suffered from that condition.
Things you can do.
Your flight schedule can also help to minimize the effects of flight fright. If possible choose to travel on a bigger air plane since they fly at higher altitude compared to smaller ones thus avoiding air turbulence. Another thing is that large planes size helps to cushion the impact and effects of air turbulence.
If possible seat towards the front of the air plane, away from the engines and emergency exit doors. The shear presence of the engines with all its vibration and noise will put you in serious jeopardy in increasing flight fright. Also never seat next to a window which allows you to see the propellers since this will work up your mind and so put you in a state of fright.
Bring along entertainment, something to read, don’t rely on the ones provided since it you may not like it. Bring along you favorite entertainment or game gadget with headphones of course to drown out any disturbance that might incite flight fear.
Talk to someone, sit next to a friend or make a new friend and just start a conversation to past the time away since conversation and chatter is one of the greatest methods of distracting the mind and control your flight fear. Remember the mind is the greatest culprit in your fears and so never remain idle since the mind will wonder away into unnecessary thoughts but gainfully employ this powerful organ of yours.
If you use all of the advise above and be a little creative then traveling will become second nature, and you may even consider a vacation of a life time where the fun and sun never ends.
