India Gate located on the eastern side of Raj path salutes the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I. India Gate allows tourists to go back over the audacity of the Indian soldiers. The monument previously known as All India War Memorial is now a major tourist spot in the capital and a common picnic site for residents and tourists.
History
The India Gate was planned and designed by sir Edwin Lutyens in 1921and his royal highness, the Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone. It was built to honor the Indian and British soldiers who died in the First World War and hundreds of soldiers who lost their lives in the North West Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919 and the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
Description
In Delhi, India gate reaches up to a height of 42 meters and stands tall in the center of the city with a domed structure. It’s boasted that it’s alike in structural grace to its counterpart in Paris.
The memorial has been built with light brown Bharatpur stones. An additional memorial, Amar Jawan Jyoti was introduced in 1971after the Indo-Pak war in the remembrance of several deceased Indian soldiers. Thus, in the remembrance of the lost lives a flame is burnt eternally.
The best time to visit this amazing construction is sunset, when large numbers of Delhiites come out for an evening walk. There is a carnival type atmosphere foaming with the normal flock of hawkers and hangers. You could relax on the wonderfully fertilized gardens brightly lit up like a newlywed bride and could taste several local delicacies and drinks form the arcade of vendors stationed there. This relaxed environment coupled with the beauty of this monument, makes this memorial a complete wonder in the heart of the city.

Rashtrapati Bhawan
You could see a phenomenal structure shining in the brilliant sunlight by turning your back to the India gate. It’s a prominent Indian massive bowl-shaped shaped structure which combines both Mughal and western architectural elegance.
Red Fort
Huge citadel made by Mughal emperor Shahjahan built in 1648 is a primary historic attraction in Delhi. This monument is also acknowledged by UNESCO as a heritage site.

The round structured building is another architectural marvel designed by Lutyens which deserves a mention. It’s an important place in the Indian political system as it’s the place where all the members of the parliament gather and hold parliament sessions.
