The Ultimate Walt Disney World Fast Pass Strategy Guide

The Fast Pass system is a way to ‘virtually’ hold your place in line for an attraction while you enjoy the rest of the park. The popular attractions, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, will have an area next to the entrance called the Fast Pass station. Insert your park ticket into the machine and it will give you a return ticket with an hour block to enter the Fast Pass line.

If you are casual stroller or want to hit as much as you can, these tips will work. Since there are only certain attractions that have fast pass, let’s go park by park and assume it’s a light to moderate crowd day.

First up is Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The big attractions are Kilimanjaro Safari, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids and Primeval Whirl. First tip I’m going to suggest is don’t get a fast pass. It’s a great ride but usually has no long lines. If you want Primeval Whirl, then go through the Main gift store to get to Dinosaur fast. If it’s a hot day, Kali will go quickly. Expedition Everest can have long lines but has a single rider line if you don’t want to wait. If your main objective is to see the animals, get the Safari pass first. It is always long lines.

Next is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The attractions are Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Toy Story Mania. Tower of Terror and Star Tours rarely have long lines. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster can have long lines but does have a single rider line also. If Toy Story Mania is a must do, have the fastest person take all the group tickets and get passes first thing. The ride will run out of tickets before noon if not sooner.

Epcot has Captain EO (for a limited time) and Living with the Land fast passes. No need to get these as either rarely has any lines. Maelstrom is a fun ride but usually will have short lines. Mission Space will have medium lines depending on which ‘training’ you chose. So the big to do choices are Soarin’ and Test Track. Both will run out of tickets. If you’ve been Soarin’ at California Adventure, it’s the exact same attraction. Test Track would there for be my get ticket first thing attraction.

Finally is Magic Kingdom which has the most fast passes. So this is the park with must do or kind of want to do. I’ll only do the must do’s. For children, it will be Peter Pan’s Flight, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, the new Journey of the Little Mermaid and Barnstormer. Peter Pan will go first. Teen and Adult choices are going to be Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain. My recommendation is Space Mountain roller coaster as the other two are the same as Disneyland.

Once you have your tickets, here are the big tips. Try to go at you fast pass time, but you can go anytime afterwards also. And finally the biggest least known fast pass adventure tip. You can have two different ones at the same time! At the bottom of the ticket will tell you when a new ticket will be available. Most people assume it would be after your window, but depending on crowd level, a new ticket may be available before you fast pass time. This is the best strategy tip of them all.
