When you’re planning a trip to Peru, Lima probably doesn’t seem too exciting with the presence of Cusco and Machu Picchu. In fact, you probably feel that you can give Lima a miss or just stay in the confines of your hotel, not bothering to explore. You might think it would be a good idea to rest a bit before a trek through the Andes to reach your intended destination. You might even look for a hotel boutique in Lima to stay in and just relax. However, there’s much to do in Lima and you’ll surely be missing out on some great fun if you don’t explore.
Get Up Close and Personal with the City
One of the best ways to explore Lima is to hire a cab or strike out on foot through Central Lima, Barranco, Miraflores and San Isidro. It is a fun way to look at all the architectural marvels that dot the city, see all the colonial and pre-colonial buildings and get a feel of the city. This kind of personal exploration feels more valuable and when you move from your hotel boutique in Lima; you might learn some new things about a unique culture.
A Day for Pachacamac
About 31 km away from Lima, is a place you wouldn’t want to miss. Pachacamac is a religious site that might have been constructed anywhere between 200 and 500 A.D. The temple is dedicated to the God Pachacamac and while it isn’t as impressive as Machu Pichhu (very few things are), it is certainly a site worth visiting.
It was a major city at one point of time, before the Spanish landed on the shores of Peru. Your hotel boutique in Lima can organize a tour to Pachacamac for you or they might even have scheduled sightseeing tours of that and several other architectural and cultural sites.
Try Extreme
Just exploring and visiting architectural sites shouldn’t be on the menu. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can try paragliding. Peru Fly, a company based in Miraflores arranges paragliding off the stunning clifftops of Lima or even the south of Peru in places like Lunahuaná, Paracas and Ica.
In Lima flights usually take off from the clifftop of Parque Raimondi. You can get lessons too, if you wish to learn. The city has this and several other adventures to offer for those willing to search them out. Just ask hotel boutique in Lima for suggestions.
