Tips on Booking Grand Canyon Tours

Looking for ways to spend your vacation? Consider Grand Canyon National Park. The landmark is one of America’s most famous and treasured. Guided tours are the best way to explore it, and types range from helicopter rides and bus trips to airplane flights and rafting adventures. No matter what your preference, there’s sure to be an activity for you.

Prior to arriving at the Grand Canyon, I recommend you research the area as much as possible. This will give you more insights into what the tour will involve and that, in turn, will make it more fulfilling. It’s also good to know the weather and what to wear in order to be comfortable.

One of the most important things you need to decide is if you want to see the West Rim or the South Rim. If you are departing from Las Vegas, your options include both rims. If you are coming up from central Arizona, the South Rim is where you want to go. It should be noted that there are no flights between the two rims.

The West Rim, which is also known as Grand Canyon West, is the only place where helicopters in particular are allowed to fly below the rim and land at the bottom. This is extra-special and is an absolute must-do. In addition to conventional helicopter packages, you can add helicopter descents to airplane and bus tours.

One-day rafting is available at both rims. From Vegas, the only trip of which I know requires you to first land at the bottom via helicopter before heading to the base of Hoover Dam for the raft segment. South Rim raft tours are available with bus or airplane transport to Glen Canyon Dam. I prefer the airplane-raft package because not only do you get to see some fantastic aerial views but also there’s a Jeep trip to Antelope Canyon. As you plan for these activities, understand that rafting tours are available from March through November.

The great thing about guided tours is that everything is planned for you. For starters, trips are all-inclusive and come with hotel shuttle service, lunch, guide service and all Park entrance fees. If you come upon a trip that requires you to pay for any of these items, find a better vendor.

Don’t wait until the last-minute to book your tour. Nor should you book your trip at the destination. There are several reasons why this should be avoided. First, you’ll have fewer trips and departure times from which to choose. Second, you’ll end up paying more because tour operators either have to make room for you or have limited seats that are only sold at a premium.

Consider booking Grand Canyon tours online. Never purchase them at the destination because they’ll cost more. For Las Vegas travelers, stay away from hotel concierges and Las Vegas Strip ticket kiosks. Shop online at reputable tour company websites. The good ones make purchasing trips safe and secure, and they also offer great deals on their most popular activities. I personally save up to 35% on trips that I book in this matter. Discounts like this are awesome, especially if you are booking a tour for a family or group.
