Herald Square site is on 34th street , broadway and 6th ave. This square is named in honour of James Gordon Bennet (1795 - 1872), he was the founder of the herald newspaper, a statue is also erected on the site. A memorial for his son James Gordon Bennet (1841 - 1918) is also erected on the site.
This park is smaller than the previous site, but they have one thing in common, they were built for citizens that have a connection to the printed word.
This park offers an important service to the natives and visitors of Manhattan, shoppers who need a resting spot, can sit at one of the many iron table and chairs and enjoy the cool shade provided by many trees and watch vehicles and people in transit on their way, or workers in the adjourning building can have a quit place, where they can have lunch and relax.
After leaving the square, I stopped by Penn Train Station and Madison Square Garden. I stood across the street from this station, and was amazed, by the amount of people, that poured out unto the street in their mad rush to get work. I estimated that it had to be between (5,000) people alone being transported by these iron coach.
There was no emotion on their faces, they were walking at a quick pace and moving in all direction. As we continued on our walk toward our hotel, I heard the noise, and felt the rumbling vibration as the train glided on its track, directly beneath the pavement where I stood.
As we continues our walk, we saw a large crowd of people in front of Good Morning America Television Building. We crossed the street and tried to get some information on what was going on.
From my vantage point, there was nothing I could see, but Bob managed to squeeze himself between the crowd, and shouted back, that they are taping a show, and he wanted to position himself so that his children could see him back home.
While all this was going on, I stood near the sidewalk, and has a conversation with Police Officer Persario. He told me that Robin was interviewing somebody, and the band that was being played was a group by the name of the Eagles.
Bob was now trying to meet the T.V, host Robin, and he did make a gallant effort to speak with her. He shouted, I am from the Bahamas, she shouted back, (hey mon! ) Then two burly bodyguard blocked his access to make any physical interaction impossible.
Very nice. Thank you one more time Alfred. Food in NY is surely great
Dear Maria, New York a place full of culture, thanks for your comment.
Great article again Alfred, your friend certainly seems to enjoy himself... I actually enjoy the Eagles...
Dear Rob, One of these days you will meet him, and the other members of the group.
The Eagles eh? Thanks for these articles Alfred. I've never been to NYC (or indeed America as yet). Is it true that New York is a great place for dining out, like London?
I've been there Kim its one hell of a place to dine, but with our exchange rate we found it very expensive but great food...
Dear Kim, New York is a place where you can find any type of food, all countries are represented, the only problem a triple room is a double, the rooms are small and the place is expensive, but if you are going for a short vacation you will do well.
