Prevent A Hangover With These Tips

Who doesn’t love to party like a Rock Star; but the harsh reality of the next morning can often be some of the worst experiences in life. Prevention is key; so instead of trying to “repair” a hangover here are a few ways to prevent hangovers that can help you have a blast without waking up in pain.

Basically hangovers result from a combination of a deluge of chemicals, impurities going through your body, and dehydration. Some easy tips to follow that are not only easy to implement but won’t make you stand out in the crowd, for example drinking one 8 oz. glass of water with every 2 alcoholic drinks you take in. This helps to hydrate your body during your drinking time and will actually help you from dehydrating yourself throughout the night. Finish off your “last call” at the bar with a nice big glass of ice water and drink one more big glass just before you go to bed. Alcohol causes you to urinate more and adding water to your body gives your body something to put out instead of dehydrating it.

A lot of people actually tend to go out for breakfast after a night of drinking and believe it or not this may actually help them battle a possible hangover, it’s a great way to help you prevent hangovers! Eggs contain something called cysteine which is actually known to help in combating some hangover symptoms. Milk is another item that can help you not only rehydrate your body but also supply it with calcium; a mineral that can help prevent hangovers when taken in before the hangover happens or even ease your pain once a hangover has hit.

As funny as it may sound, many places are beginning to offer “Oxygen Bars” for people who want to detoxify. If you have an oxygen bar, where you literally pull up a stool (or in most cases a comfortable seat) and take in pure oxygen. The intake of oxygen can help clear your brain and detoxify your body. If you don’t have an oxygen bar around take in some nice big breaths that fill your chest and head with fresh air.

One myth that many people actually have is that taking a couple aspirin or acetaminophen tablets (Tylenol) before drinking helps keep headaches at bay. This is a complete myth and may actually cause you a lot of problems since acetaminophen is actually known to damage the liver. Taking in large amounts of alcohol is already damaging your liver; so adding on even an over the counter drug like acetaminophen, which is known for causing liver damage, is just a bad idea.

Instead of taking an aspirin or some acetaminophen to alleviate the possibility of a headache a great way to preventing hangovers is to actually take a vitamin B complex pill before drinking. This is known to prevent the buildup of something called glutarate in your brain, which is associated with headaches; especially those caused by drinking.

Probably one of most people’s favorite ways to prevent a hangover has to be to eat some of that especially yummy, but horribly bad for you, fatty bar food. The fat from these foods will coat your stomach to help slow down the absorption of the alcohol and its impurities which cause hangovers.

Our final tip on how to prevent a hangover is to be particular about the alcohol you choose. More pure and organic alcohols have less impurities, colorings, and flavorings (also referred to as congeners) to toxify your body. Choosing vodka, gin, or any of the new “organic” varieties of alcohol, can help you prevent hangovers more so than if you were to drink whiskey or wine.
