Being in paleo diet may be at first challenging. It is not just about eating only fruits and vegetables and avoiding sweets and carbohydrates, but it is all about educating yourself on what type of food is good for you. Other diets may not allow you to eat the egg yolks, but in paleo diet it is permitted. It is all about finding the right food and knowing what they can actually do for your body.

Paleo diet focuses on foods that were basically eaten during the Paleolithic age. Simply means, that any processed meats are a big no to this diet. Plants that are grown using chemicals and pesticides are also not allowed. Even salts and softdrinks are not acceptable because they do not belong to the Paleolithic time. So here are samples of food that are paleo- approved.

Meat

Meat is a staple food in paleo diet. It can be eaten throughout the day. It is recommended that you cook the meat with less or no fat at all. Deep frying is a mortal sin in paleo diet. You can cut off the fats from your meat or to make it easy for you choose lean meat only. Here are some of the so many types of meat you can enjoy in paleo diet. Lean cuts of beef like flank steak, top sirloin steak, lean veal and chuck steak; lean pork like pork chops and pork loin; lean poultry like chicken and turkey breast, white meat only with no skin; rabbit meat; goat meat; beef, lamb and pork livers, tongues and marrows; alligator, elk, kangaroo, goose, turtle and wild boar.

Fish

Fishes that are included in the paleo diet food list are: mackerel, salmon, eel, grouper, herring, halibut, sardines, shark, trout, tuna, red snapper, bass, sunfish, tilapia and swordfish. There are more fish that are permitted in paleo diet, check the internet or ask your dietitian about it.

Shellfish

For shellfish you can have crabs, clams, abalone, lobster, oysters, mussels, scallops, shrimp and crayfish.

Fruits and Vegetables

It is advisable that there should be fruits and vegetables together with your meal. Just make sure you do not consume tubers that are high in carbohydrates like yams, potatoes and sweet potatoes. Keep in mind that some fruits have high sugar content, so eat fruits in moderation. Examples of fruits for paleo diet are banana, apple, blackberries, apricot, cantaloupe, cherries, grapefruits, grapes, guava, orange, mango, watermelon, raspberries, tangerine, plums and persimmon.

For vegetables, these are: broccoli, celery, cucumber, eggplant, squash, tomato, onions, turnips, lettuce, carrots, radish, spinach, cauliflower, watercress, cabbage, beets, asparagus, mushrooms, artichoke, parsley, bell peppers and bean sprouts.

These are just example of foods that are in paleo diet. Consult your dieititian to know more about this diet and the food list.
