First of all I got diabetes when I was 15 after my dad died from a fall from a ladder. I have learned not to worry about the storms you just have to learn to dance in the rain. In other words, you can’t get all upset with things you can’t control but with diabetes there are a lot of things you can control.

Here are some of my secrets that have made my success story. First, find a good doctor at the endocrinology clinic. Generally they will want to see you every three to four months. Make sure you show up for the appointments. I feel that seeing doctor at the endocrinology clinic is the best because that is their specialty. There are things changing all the time with type 1 and 2 diabetes and these doctors stay up with the changes.

Second, you can control is your blood sugar. I test my blood sugar before I eat all the time. My fingers are getting tough to poke but that’s the way it goes. I will still test my blood sugar. If you don’t test you blood sugar I’m sure it is OUT of CONTROL and that’s not good. The doctor will probably take an A1C when you go, which gives you the average blood sugar for the 3 months. My blood meter will also give me the average blood sugar for the week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. If you haven’t learned to find the average, get your book out and read about it. It is a great tool. How do you get your blood sugar in control, learn to take it before you eat. Taking your blood sugar is within your control. Sometimes the doctor may ask you to take it 2 hours after you eat as well. I know each individual is different and I just can tell you about my experiences.

Third, you can control what you eat. I would love to keep eating and eating but I stop. I am 5’7” and weigh 125 pounds and don’t want to weigh any more. I always said that I would never be a fat diabetic. You probably know what you can eat, than just do it. I love to eat but I’ll set out what I’m going to eat and wait hour and I’m always full. If I’m not then I will have a hot cup of tea.

Fourth, always take your insulin. Now, a lot of people take injections after they eat and have to figure the carbohydrates. That’s me, and I always have my calculator. The great thing about eating out these days is that most restaurants have a nutrition guide that tells you about everything you need to know. Just ask for the nutrition guide.

Fifth, it is important to exercise. Yes, everyone is busy these days but is your health important to you? You should be able to spare hour during your day. I have a stationary bicycle that I ride in front of the television set.

Today there is a LOT of diabetics in the world and there are becoming more and more type2 because more children and adults are obese. As a retired physical education teacher, I wanted to help kids get moving and have fun. My motivation for starting my website was providing fitness to kids.

My website has pedal cars, air planes, trains, a fire truck, tricycles and junior tricycles. View the website at Top of the Line Pedal Cars. Or view my blog at pedalcarsblog Get kid’s moving!
