Parkinson's disease. What are the primary symptoms? How is it diagnosed and assessed by clinical psychologists? What are the known causes? What are the medical treatments? Are there any beneficial natural treatments? Are there any particular nutritious diet programs which can alleviate any of the symptoms?

Over recent years there have been more discoveries and intensive research into the neurological causes of parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease primarily affects individuals aged over 75 years old and is associated with the signs and symptoms of dementia. As yet however there is still no cure because parkinson's disease is both slow acting and degenerative as a brain disease. Until there are tests devised to identify the start of parkinson's disease it is usually detected far too late when it is in its advanced stages and is irreversible.

Only 20% of individuals with Parkinson's disease experience hallucinations. Most parkinson's disease sufferers manifest signs of short-term memory loss and slower thought processes. In the advanced stages of Parkinson's disease the individual is unable to sleep, manifests slurred speech besides being unable to stand or walk without falling down at frequently occurring intervals. Loss of clear speech, personality changes, depression, agitation, anxiety are also manifest signs of Parkinsons disease and require supportive therapy.

Physiological symptoms of the disease are signs of limb tremor on one side of the body before occurring on both sides of the body followed by increased limb rigidity leading to lack of balance while walking due to the loss of coordination of movement and balance. Most fatalities amid Parkinson's disease sufferers are due to falling down, strokes, chronic infection, vascular disease.

From the neurological perspective, the cells in the substantia nigra region of the inner brain become damaged as they begin to malfunction. As there are significant decreases in the amounts of dopamine produced by the cells then neurotransmitter messages between the brain and the limbs are distorted. When this occurs there is sensory motor movement coordination failure as the body requires messages from the body to balance.

Even though medical treatment can replace declining dopamine levels it can't stop the progression of Parkinson's disease because there is no definitive cause. Each case of parkinson's disease is known to be hereditary. So genetic research holds the key to unlocking the enigma of the role of autosome genetic traits in the development of this disease. Emotional trauma is now thought to be one of the contributing causes.

Only by combining multiple available medical treatments can there be relief from the symptoms of parkinson's disease. Some dopamine replacement medications are noticeably effective such as levodopa and carbidopa taken in combination to replace and boost lost dopamine levels as brain cells are lost during parkinson's disease. Levodopa is widely regarded as the best treatment for stopping tremor and muscle rigidity.

Instead of medical treatments to replace the lost dopamine being the sole treatment for Parkinson's disease there should be some massage therapy provided to relieve the chronic muscle stiffness and reduce the sore areas with the release of endorphins into the bloodstream able to improve the motion and posture due to the increased circulation in the muscles. By applying finger stroke and palm pressure to press and stretch the muscles the muscle rigidity will sisappear. Daily Tai Chi exercise will reverse the posture instability.

Parkinson's disease research and Parkinson's disease treatment is advancing all the time with the latest research revealing that cellular regeneration may be possible in the substanta negra region of the brain through stem cells
